Adhesions

So I am pretty sure I have adhesions. I have had really bad abdominal pain for about 4 months on one exact spot. I just got my period back and it totally ramped up the few days beforehand. I had a rough surgery which included a bladder repair so I know I have extra scar tissue. How did others get diagnosed? How did you know you had adhesions? I am pretty miserable but do not want surgery again...

Re: Adhesions

  • I had adhesions after my c section. I was diagnosed after I had every other test done under the sun. Bloodwork, ct scan, ultrasound, x-rays, and colonoscopy. 4 different doctors, 1 trip to the ER. Finally I had laproscopy surgery done on the 2nd of August and was back to work on the 6th. It was easy and totally worth it since I had severe pain and a bowel blockage. They found 6 or so adhesions. Surgery took 20 minutes, took pain meds for 1 day. Super Easy! Also, the only way to be 100% sure of adhesions is to actually look inside. They don't show up on any tests. Doctors will rule out everything else before turning to surgery.

  • Thank you so much for your reply. There have been many nights where I have contemplated going to the ER but then try to sleep it off. I go back to the OB tomorrow. I had some bloodwork and an ultrasound a few months ago. Bloodwork was normal and ultrasound showed scar tissue but nothing too extreme. Glad to know the surgery is easy. Did your OB do it?

  • I labored with my son for 31 hours. The pain from the adhesion was a million times worse. I was nauseous, vomiting, I could feel my bowels spasm. It was horrible! Scary part was when I was home alone with my son and these attacks would happen and I couldn't move. Anyways. Yes, my OB did it. Not all doctors do it in the practice I go to. Yours may or may not do it. The scars from the laparoscopy are little, 1/4 inch. I have three, one in my belly button and two on the ends of the c section scar. When I woke up from surgery my doctor told me what he had found and even had pictures to show me. I got to see the exact adhesion that caused all my grief. Before and after the clean up as well. Kind of cool. Good luck and if they talk surgery go with the lap. It's super easy!
