  • Yay! I'm heading from MI to NC at the end of the month with DS. I am very nervous about traveling on the plane by myself with him. Any tips? Also- did you hold LO in your lap or bring the carseat? I'm not too sure what I should do!

I flew with LO a few weeks ago.  My MIL was with us, but didn't help much (other than carrying my extra bag because I didn't want to check anything)... If I would've checked a bag, I could've done it myself.  My tips are:

    1) Take a travel changing pad and change diapers on the floor.  After I waited for the family bathroom for 10 minutes, I decided the floor was fine.  Plus, I didn't have to juggle everything AND keep DD from falling off the changing table.

    2) When the flight attendant comes around with drinks, ask for an empty cup (and whatever other things she has that LO could play with).  DD would much rather play with a plastic cup than her toys - I think all babies are like that haha

    3) Dress him in layers so you can adjust based on airport/plane/outdoor temperatures.

    4) If you have a connection that is a decent amount of time, take a stroller that lays down.  I mostly carried DD in the ergo, but was happy I could lay her in the stroller to give myself a break when she napped.

I couldn't afford another seat for DD, and the flight I booked didn't have 2 seats together that were available anyways.  She rode in my lap just fine, and I kept her in the ergo 75% of the time we were in the air.  It's safer (and recommended) to have a car seat, but it just wasn't feasible for us.  Good luck!

  • Thank you for the tips!! I am very nervous about traveling alone with DS. I'm sure it will all work out though :)
