Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

proud moment i had 2 share!

Had to share a proud moment with other mama’s! Yesterday, DH and I went to get groceries with our 16 mo son. He was starting to fuss as soon as we got there and by the time we got back to the meat counter he was in a full fledged “let me down or I will completely freak out” mode. DH told me he would take him outside and I could just shop quick and go meet them at the car. In the midst of all this, an old man working behind the counter (who was not waiting on us and was far enough away and speaking loudly enough for others to hear and look our way) said repeatedly “Give him a bottle! Give him a bottle!” I look at him unamused and said, “we don’t have one with us.” He then proceeded to say
Oh, first time parents! DH was already walking away at this point, not hearing him and I was overly annoyed. But he kept going with “Give him a binky! Get the binky!” Once again, I said “we don’t have that either!” (they were in the car mind you, but we didn’t bring them into the store) He then yelled again “First time parents! First time parents! Take a mental note for next time!” I was thinking you have GOT to be kidding me…we were already stressed and trying to calm him down and now this guy is going to mock us…<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I got out to the car and told DH and he immediately got out of the car and went in to let the guy know that he was NOT in a position to say things like that. Needless to say, I was a proud wife having him stand up and give the guy a taste of his own medicine!

  • Wow...proud of your DH Going to tell off an old man for basically what sounds like being an old man. Yes, the old man may have been a little out of line, but by your account he did not seem to be rude. I would have just laughed it off.

That's certainly not something I would be proud of or bragging about.

  • Yeah... Wouldn't be shopping there again. But don't be afraid to go out with your baby. They need the experience of being in public.
  • Yeah, that doesn't sound like a proud moment that I would be bragging about.

  • I... Would have been mortified if DH did that. Would I be annoyed by the guy? Sure. Would I vent to DH? Sure. But if I was so upset about it that I felt someone needed to talk to him, I would just file a formal complaint with the manager. There's no way I'd let DH go in there and embarrass me like that.

  • Why would you care that much about what some random old man in a grocery store said in the first place? To go back in to address it further is absolutely absurd. Walk away, brush it off as an annoying incident and never think about it again.

  • I don't care how old or young the store employee was he was being rude and unprofessional. The store employee was attempting to embarrass you and he sounds like a bully. My DH would have done the same thing and I would have emailed the store when I got home.
  • wow some people are harsh...the only thing I'd say is Stand up for yourself don't need DH to do it. I'd have said something fresh then walked away.

Bully is not a synonym for annoying.

If my husband felt the need to go BACK into a store to tell off an old man making harmless (albeit stupid) comments, then I'd suggest he go to anger management.

This is the weirdest thing I've seen bragged about on The Bump since that lady gave her husband blowjobs while she was holding her newborn or nursing or something.
    LMAO!!!!!!!

  • Rude, inappropriate, annoying behavior compounds and builds because weak passive people ignore it.
  • Dumb and pointless is comparing a harmless situation to a circumstance where a parent thought it was okay to perform a sexual act in front of their child. I provided my opinion but I'm not ignorant enough to tell anyone they are wrong. Because its an OPINION.
  • I've been checking this thread daily just because it makes me LOL , the OP and the comments. Sillyness!

I know. I can't stay away. It's kind of a great example of everything that's wrong with the world today.
ETA: referring to the comments that agree that this was an awesome thing to do, of course. And anywhere the world "bully" is mentioned.

Yea really, I mean how is a nosy old man that works at a grocery store a bully??  Old people always say whatever the hell they want because they can, and really who cares.   Also, why the eff wouldn't you have your baby bag or purse with you containing paci or bottle or whatever else you would need to calm your child.  I am all for standing up for yourself/your spouse when needed but this just seems a little overkill.  Plus if something that lame makes you proud of your husband then I kinda feel bad for you.

  • I really thought from the title of this post that it was going to be about something cute a baby did :-(

    A. Shouldn't husbands/wives stick up for one another like, all of the time? Not really something to brag about..
    B. Sounds like the old man just thought he was being helpful..maybe it was annoying at the time, but I'd be mortified if my husband went BACK in to tell off an old man, or anyone, who was just trying to be helpful
    C. Snack, drink, and little book/toy should be with you ALL the time EVERYWHERE you go, just in case, when it comes to shopping with a toddler!!!! :-)

    Anniversary
