anyone with pelvic floor issues?

DS is 2 weeks old and yesterday I felt some pressure in my pelvis and a bulging sensation. When I looked in the mirror Im sure I can see my cervix. My pp appointment isnt until 8/21 but Im going to call tomorrow and see what my doc says. I know its still early in the healing process but Im still nervous...

Re: anyone with pelvic floor issues?

  • Lurking but I had this around 5 weeks pp and I was freaking out. My OB said everything looked ok and it would just take time. I've been doing kegals and now at 7.5 weeks its starting to look a bit better down there

I have a bladder prolapse that I discovered at 2 weeks PP. I'm now 10 weeks PP and it's gotten better, but is still there. It can take a full year for your body to recover from pregnancy and childbirth, and two years for recovery from postpartum prolapse. Your doctor will probably not be concerned and just tell you to do kegels. At my 6 week appt, my doctor didnt even notice my prolapse until I asked her about it, and then she just said, "oh yeah" and told me to do kegels. (The PA at her office had diagnosed me with bladder prolapse at 3 weeks PP after I discovered it and called the office freaking out.)

Postpartum prolapse is very, very common although no one talks about it. It is also different from prolapse developed later in life in that postpartum prolapse tends to heal on its own. You will always need to be mindful of it though and may notice it more at certain times. Don't do any heavy lifting, take it easy when you work out (no ab crunches,) and don't strain to have a bowel movement.

For me, even though most days I don't notice my bladder prolapse much, I find it feels worse when I've been more active than normal. Also, carrying my LO in her car seat aggravates it. Unfortunately, that's an unavoidable task so I just do the best I can.

Also, don't google too much about it! I threw myself into a full blown depression about it because I read way too much. So inform yourself with caution! :) It will get better. Hang in there. Feel free to PM me if you want.

ETA the article about kegels is so right. They won't do anything to make a prolapse better, even though that's the standard "treatment" given by doctors.

Yes it did hurt but it hurt the same way it did after ds1. I think it has something to do with my stitches and scar tissue though. It didn't hurt internally, more so where the stitches actually started (if that makes any sense)

  • You can also ask for a referral for pelvic physical therapy. They will teach you ways to strengthen the pelvic floor that work much better than kegals.
