Food for birthday party?

What are you all planning for food at LO's birthday party?

I'm doing tacos/nachos. Figured it would be easy to fully prep beforehand. I hate cooking during a party and making a mess or missing any of the fun!

Re: Food for birthday party?

  • Our original plan was pizza and cake (party is 3 days before RCS) MIL has decided that's not good enough so she is making bbq and other sides. :/

Haha... Well good for her! Make sure you sit back and relax! <:-P

  • Oh I will but it still pisses me off. She can't leave it be and I know she is just trying to help and I should be thankful.

  • No... I find it annoying also. But try to take advantage of it, relax and take part in the party rather than dealing with anything food related.

  • We are having Pin wheel wraps, Sandwich platter, Veggie plate, Fruit plate, Chips, all kinds of misc. snacks and cake.

We are keeping it minimal since we are going to a place where you can only bring a certain amount of pre bought items. Plus we always go back to our place for a after party and we will have BBQ and swimming.

Ladies in your opinion does the food for the actual party sound fine?

  • We did a mini nacho bar and it was a hit! I made a meat and cheese sauce in the crock pot.
  • At the actual party we just had cake and ice cream and juice. There was just no time to have served anything else. We went to my SO's parents house afterward and made fajitas though.

  • We're just doing immediate family, keeping it simple. Burgers and hot dogs, veggie pasta salad, some easy apps to pick at. Cake and ice cream.

  • I am stressing over this because our party is at 2:30 so it is not lunch or dinner but needs to be hearty. I think I am going to do a pull apart bread I have seen on Pinterest stuffed with cheese and bacon as a play on grilled cheese. I will also do mini taco cups and pigs in a blanket (bc Lincoln loves hot dogs and I don't let him eat a lot of them.) We ordered a fancy schmance cake from a friend who is a professional baker. Last year the cake was $25 but this year her husband is out of work so it is $50 but if I got a cake to feed 50 people anywhere else, of this caliber, it woud be $250 so I am not complaining about the one single splurge. (Sory for the tangent.)

  • We're keeping it pretty small this year, too. Just immediate family and two other families we're super close with. We'll be having chicken and egg salad finger rolls, pizza dip, fruit skewers, pesto tortellini salad, a veggie tray with ranch and hummus, a relish tray (pickles, olives, etc) and pigs in a blanket.

It's going to be a construction theme, since the kid adores trucks, and I'm making dirt cupcakes. Can't wait to see how they turn out!

    That sounds perfect to me.

  • I haven't figured it out yet. I have just over two weeks...

There will only be two families, so it shouldn't be *too* hard to figure it out. It will be some sort of lunch finger foods and cake.

    That is the worst!
We did burgers with sides that could all be prepared the morning of or the day before (salads, veggies sticks and dips...). And my super duper awesome watermelon bombe :)

  • We are thinking of doing a some pot roasts with carrots and potatoes.  Then random sides like fruit, veggies, pasta salad, and cake/desserts.
  • We're doing a Very Hungry Caterpillar picnic at a local park, so I let the book make the menu.  So, hot dogs and hamburgers, watermelon, oranges, strawberries, meat/cheese/cracker try, cake and ice cream.  SO insists on making pulled pork sandwiches too, so that will be there for the "big kids".

    Everyone's parties sound yummy!

  • We are doing a Milk and Cookies theme and I'm keeping it simple with cake, ice cream, cookies, milk, plus sodas and probably some veggies/cheese. Also we don't really know anyone in our new town so the guest list is really small lol.
