Weekend morning schedule?

What is your weekend morning schedule like?  I was having a recent conversation with a friend, and she mentioned she was having a fight with her DH because he had a hard time getting up on saturday and sunday mornings before 10am even though their LOs get up around 7am.  I really can't understand this, so I thought I would see if this was more of the norm than I thought it was.  In our house, we both get up with the kids.  On occasion, we'll treat the other to a morning to sleep in, but we alternate, so we both get a chance to sleep in.  What is your household like?

Re: Weekend morning schedule?

  • We usually alternate. One gets Sat morning, the other gets Sunday. How late we get to sleep in depends on our plans for the day. I have a hard time staying asleep, but I will take my time drinking my tea in our room either reading or on the computer.

  • I get up 90% of the time with Caroline in the mornings.  We have had busy mornings lately so we are all usually up before 9.  On Sunday we have church so again we are all up together around 7:45-8.  I am usually up with the kids because DH is usually up working on school stuff until 1-2am and I'm usually in bed before midnight so we get the same amount of sleep just at different times.  When Caroline had her ear infections and wasn't sleeping I would take the first shift and I was up with her from 11pm-4:30-5am.  DH would take her in the living room and try and get her back to sleep and then play with her until I got up around 8.  The only time we both get to sleep in is when the girls spend the night with my parents on Saturday night and neither of us is volunteering at church on Sunday.

  • We alternate.  MH gets up Sat mornings, and I do Sundays.  On the days I can't sleep in, he still takes care of her (plays, feeds her breakfast) until after I had my coffee then I jump in lol

  • Honestly, I don't think it's fair that one parent should always get to sleep in while the other has to get up with the kids...JMO.  I'm a single parent, so I have to get up.  Even if I were with his 'dad' still, I think this would be a fight...not that he wanted to sleep in(he was an early riser) but that he wouldn't let me sleep in and him tend to LO while I got a bit of extra sleep.

  • They usually climb in bed with us around 5 or 6 and we all go back to sleep for another hour or so. On the weekends where they get up early and are up for the day we both get up. Sometimes if DH has been working long hours he'll sleep in a little, I don't mind except for when he slept in until 10 on Mother's Day this year.... I was pissed!
  • I get up on the weekends because DH does it all week.  I'm not sure it is "fair" but that is what we do.  I do get annoyed if he stays in bed until 8:30 when Allison is up well before 7:00

Ironically, I was just thinking we need to have a conversation about this because he gets way more sleep than I do on the weekends.  I don't think it would kill him to do Sunday mornings.

  • Same as you, we both get up unless one really needs to sleep in, but that's uncommon.

  • We usually both get up. Sometimes we take turns, but Austin usually comes to snuggle with us and drink milk in the morning, so we are both up anyway.

  • We both wake up with Nat. Sometimes DH will sleep in and not too often I will sleep in. But I would never let DH sleep until 10am unless he worked super late the night before.

  • I am the one to get up with the kids on the weekends, but I cannot sleep in past 7 anyway. I usually get their breakfast and then wake DH up so I can go running. On Sundays I get their breakfast going and then we are both up to get ready for church. So really he's not sleeping in much.

  • We get up together. Lately DS has been up for the day just before 8 which feels like sleeping in to me (it used to be 6:30)! If we have errands to run we'll eat breakfast, shower, and run our errands. If we don't then we eat breakfast and lounge around and play for a couple hours.

  • Most of the time we both get up with her on the weekends (she will sleep until 7:30/8am). When she was younger and used to wake up by 6am at the latest, we alternated. DH slept in on Saturdays, I slept in on Sundays. (this is sleeping in - we get up at 5am during the week, and I wake DD up at 5:30am)
