Unwanted house guest

You guys might think I'm nuts. Anyone have a ghost in their house? We really have one. Just curious!

  • Yes tell us more! I'm intrigued! I don't think I have any ghosts. I don't love scary things, I'd probably freak. But tell us some more!

He (the original owner of the house who died here) likes to screw with us. Several times (probably 5) we've gone to bed, and woke up around three in the morning with a flashing light in the living room...turns out its the tv on with no sound. Also during our renovations to our upstairs, we've gotten locked in I don't know how many times. Our dog goes ape-shit bananas staring at nothing growling, shaking, etc. When we had a door on the dining room, every time I'd walk in the door would close behind me. The scariest was when I was home alone, texting a friend, and watching TV. Our dog was on my lap. I clear as day heard slow deliberate footsteps go from our soon to be master bedroom into the soon to be baby's room. The dog sat up and stared at the stairs. I was shaking and didn't dare move off the sofa. My husband came home and after seeing how freaked out I was went up to check. Nothing. Lastly, just tonight I was standing in the living room, watching something on the TV, with a clear shot of our temporary bedroom. Something white passed by the door. I can tell some if you think I'm probably nuts, but if you experienced it also, you'd start thinking it was real too! ALSO I forgot the best part. While we had the floors and walls ripped open upstairs, my husband found a pair of women's underwear stuffed out in the eaves. Later after pulling out old insulation, he pulled out a ponytail. Wtf?! Not two days later he pulled out another one. I was thinking it was some voodoo thing or spiritual thing until someone was like, "um sounds like a serial killer's stash". So creepy.

I don't want to go to bed tonight now.

    OMG me either, lol!

Seriously though, Em, consider calling Ghost Hunters, or something like that.

I was going to ask if I should like sage or have someone like a medium come and do whatever to get this guy to move on, but then I feared you'd all think I was REALLY crazy for asking! Maybe I should before little chubs arrives.
  • Yes you can definately sage yourself or hire someone i would be soo freaked out!

Okay... how to put this... I do believe in ghosts, spirits, entities... whatever you want to call them.  I don't believe that everyone who claims to have an experience with them has actually had one, and I don't believe that all people who claim to have a link with them actually do. There's a lot of bullshit mixed in with the truth.

However, if you can find a reputable person or group or people to look into your situation, and it would give you peace of mind to do so, then I don't see why you wouldn't.  Seems like you're pretty scared of this thing that you perceive to be messing with you in your home.  If you're scared, don't bring your LO into that environment without looking into it.
This. There's no way I would be able to bring my baby into the house if all this was happening. That stuff freaks me out, big time. Get someone in there, someone who can "clear" the air or something.

OMG! I would definitely not be in a house with a ghost. I am such a huge chicken! Like pp when we were house hunting I always asked about people dying in the house or if there were any ghosts.

  • No we don't. But the house I grew up in did. Nothing scary just weird stuff and yeah the dogs could always sense them. My parents still live there and when weird stuff happens we just always laugh, but I think it would be different if it was scary or touching us and stuff like that.
  • Did you actually find human hair ponytails? And you didn't call the police?
  • I never believed stuff like the and admit to side eyeing ghost stories until I moved into my MILs for awhile. There are way too many stories to tell. Brief two: when I moved in nobody had ever told me one ghost story about the house. About a month after moving in I woke up to a hand on my stomach. I jumped and saw a man there for about 5 second and he was gone. The next day I told dH. Turns out this was the same exact description of a man my BIL had given when he saw him for about 5 seconds in the hallway when he was a teenager. (White hair, little beer belly but otherwise tiny, same height, tan like a fisherman almost, everything) No one ever told me this story or that the house has ghost stories before then.

Another quick story, My mIL is a board line hoarder so imagine her attic. In the back corner were vinyl records of her father's that she hasn't seen in 20 years because everything is piled so high in there. We came down one morning and one of them was propped in the air conditioning vent all the way downstairs in the kitchen.

  • We have a ghost. Pretty sure it's my grandma, I live in my grandparents house and they have both passed away. The dog does bark at the hall but just weird things lights being turned on or off when we aren't home. The best is she hidesy bf's stuff randomly. Never hid anything of mine but she first started with his DVD of Scream and has moved onto other things. Doesn't really bother us though.
  • Not here but I believe in ghosts!

  • Not in the house I live in now, but in the house I grew up in, where my parents still live, we've had tons of encounters. DH thinks we're all BSC when we share our stories, but if he grew up with it, he'd be a believer too.

  • Not at my current house but my last one and the one I grew up in. Last house my DH's papa died in the house, nana and stepmom died while living there. None of our experiences where threating. We had one light dim on and off all the time. When I was pregnant with DD I was taking a nap and felt a woman's hand touch my shoulder. The one thing that was crazy was the picture frame with a picture and poem for his papa would fly on wall and land on floor when no one was by it. The glass never broke and the picture hasn't fallen off at this house.
  • My best friends house was haunted, doors would close, rocking chairs would rock it was freaky. The most freaky thing one night when noone was home I heard a shovel being used.( We lived next door to each other) When they came home the next day they had a huge whole on the side of their yard.

  • In the home we were at with our first daughter we had a ghost, Mrs. Pini. She owned the home for like 70 years. She taught piano ad it was housed in the room that became the nursery. Our daughter refused to sleep in there and at night you could hear soft piano music coming from it. It was never threatening. I've been surrounded by spirits my whole life and I believe our oldest is as well. She often "speaks" to my husbands cousin Jimmy who passed in 2008, 3 years before she was born. We know as she went up to a photo that was in my husbands uncles home, prior to had never seen a photo, and said "Hi Jimmy"....we'd been hearing her say his name but chalked it up to nothing.

  • no no no. The house would be burning to the ground!

I'm pretty sure most of you need to have your electrical checked in your homes because this is most likely the cause of all the light/electronic flickerings. Seriously, it's stuff like that which may eventually cause an electrical fire and I'm genuinely concerned that some of you are more comfortable blaming it on "super natural" occurrences rather than finding the true cause.

We did have an electrician look at ours and they found nothing wrong. They redid stuff incase but happen still. It only happened for a couple months. My dad was an electrician so I always worry about electrical stuff.
  • I love ghost stories.... They freak me out, but I truly enjoy thinking that the "other side" has a way of communicating. I would like to share that the house I grew up in was haunted. One night while sitting downstairs on our computer, I turned and looked up the stairs to see the fair silhouette of a man in a trench coat and hat. I sat there fixated on this and I wasn't scared, just slightly unnerved. When later explaining this to my mom, she told me that the same figure was standing next to her bed upstairs. She believes it is her father who passed away when she was 16.
The other story revolves around my brother who one night awoke to an old woman's face hovering about his bed sort of crying out at him. He says it looked like my mothers mom. He said it was extremely freaky.
Finally, one night I awoke to all the blankets at the end of my bed being shoved off and a feeling of weight pressing down on my body. I literally shook myself as hard as possible and sat up. This was right before I decided to move in with my DH when he was just my BF. It was just too weird and something I never had felt in the house before. I felt sort of threatened. Since moving out my mom has had random moments of oddness but not as bad as when her three kids lived there. I do get the creeps when in the house alone, especially when their dog stops and stares at something. His tail stops wagging and everything. Eek!
  • First of all, I would like to know about the ponytails, because F that noise...

We bought our house from a woman named Mildred in my home town, her husband died many years ago and she has moved to an independent living facility.

When we have strange occurrences or sounds we say it's Old Man Mildred :)

  • Yes to the human hair ponytails, no to contacting the police. I really thought it was a weird creepy voodoo thing, and that the underwear was a hidden affair. Call me dense but the negative possibility of it being a 'collection' didn't hit me until someone said something later, and by then we had already taken everything to the dump. I did research past assaults, murders etc, in the area and tried to dig up as much as I could on the previous owners, (including their soc. sec. numbers, where they went to school, their business; you can find anything online) but I didn't get farther than that. Now I'M THE A**HOLE. Sorry!
