Teething Bling vs Amber vs toys?

This has been a rough week for LO and me. He's been SUPER grouchy most of the time and a terrible sleeper. I'm not 100% sure he's teething but his pedi saw some little buds in the back, so he might be, ugh. That being said I'm trying to avoid baby Tylenol cause he's so young and since I can't be truly sure of what's causing his grumpy disposition it could be entirely pointless.

Anyway, I was reading up on those amber beads for baby to wear and they just seemed like hype to me. I know people who swear by them but it just seems to wrong to me to put beads on my baby. Anyone have experience with these?

The other thing I was looking into was "teething bling" from Smart Moms. It takes away the concern of my baby wearing beads, but I don't know anyone that's used it, so I don't have any personal references for it. Not that I know any of you personally lol but do any of my fellow bumpies use this? Does it help? Was it useless?

Lastly, should I just stick with teething toys?

I'm super open to opinions even unpopular ones. Seriously anything to get this kid to go back to being a fairly easy to handle baby!

  • I have the amber necklace and teething bling for myself. My daughter is not conpletely teething yet but has been wearing the amber necklace since 4 months. I think it cuts down on drool but haven't had too much other experience as I'm not sure she's in pain yet. I like the teething bling - mine is a jellystone necklace. It's good to have on hand but mostly during the day she's happy with a measuring cup or some other non baby toy to put in her mouth.

  • We have an amber and hazel wood necklace. She wore it for a few days, but I got nervous about it. She really doesn't complain much about her teeth, so I'll probably wait a few weeks before I put it back on her.

  • I bought an amber necklace, and I thought it was helping with fussiness, but the day she had a tooth actually breaking through, it didn't do a thing! I don't like the idea of the jewelry for momma, either, because that seems like a bad habit to start!

For the day when the teeth were breaking through, I gave Tylenol regularly. Because, ouch, can you imagine how badly that would hurt? Not every fussy day leading up to it, but for the day when she was inconsolable and each tooth ended up breaking through. And teething tablets. And momma's finger to chew on, which seemed to work better than every teething toy in the world.

  • I give 2 teething tablets every 4-ish hours...I'll give a third after an hour if they haven't done anything, and they help SO MUCH! I haven't found that Tylenol really knocks her out immediately, but I do make sure to give it right before bed on days that she's really in pain so that she can get to sleep.

He chews on my hand whenever I'll let him. My heart breaks for him cause I can only imagine how frustrating it is to be uncomfortable and not understand why.

I agree with PP the mama jewelry seems like a really bad habit to start. I would worry that then all necklaces would seem like chew toys. Sophie the giraffe has been wonderful, as have "freezer bunnies". We wet wash cloths (that we shape into a bunny- you can look it up) and then throw into a ziploc and into the freezes. They catch the drool mess and are soothing.
