Cloth Diapering

hand me down cloth diapers

I got some home made cloth diapers from a friend who's daughter had cloth diapered and made her own diapers. The patterns are really cute. I think I would need to use them as a cover since there is no pocket in them and aren't that thick. Do you ladies think a gmd prefold would be fine under the covers? I also noticed that these don't have any pul on them. I don't know if I will have problems with them leaking or not. My stash is pockets of various brands so getting some prefolds would probably be a good thing either way. I'm just not sure what I am doing with the covers yet. Any suggestions? She made some cute diapers. Oh and on a side note I was also given a pink pair of wool pants. So excited to try those down the road.

  • I THINK these are fitteds and you wear a cover over them?

  • Are those made of flannel by chance? If so then they are the absorbent part and work like a prefold or fitted would. They are a hybrid design of the two and require a cover to be water proof.

  • They do feel like a heavy material kind of like a flannel. I didn't think about putting a cover over those. Hmm... I'll have to play around with them some tomorrow.

  • Yeah those look a lot like fitteds to me, too.  I would put them on LO with a cover over and see how it goes.  You probably don't need a prefold too, it would be in place of a prefold.

  • Yup, they sound like fitteds. If there's no PUL or fleece outer you will need a cover over it. Even though its thin it may be absorbent, some of the most absorbent fabrics are very trim (like hemp or bamboo). I'd try it out first. If you need more absorbency you can add a doubler or insert.

  • I have seen those called either Daddy Flats, or Snap Wrap Flats.  They are essentially a cross between a prefold and a fitted so you will need a cover.  You may be able to use just that depending on what she made them out of.
