Finger Food Suggestions

My LO in just short of 9 months and has been doing great with solid foods and learning to pick things up on her own.  I need some suggestions on more finger foods that are easy to make and/or easy to store.  Im a working mom and have little time to spare, if I could prep things on Sunday for the week ahead that would be awesome!

  • Tofu is one of the easier ones for us.  Otherwise i chop up pea sized veggies/fruit that has already been steamed or give her some cheerios.  If the food is slippery (i.e. bananas and avocados are tough to pinch sometimes then i shake the pieces in a container with crushed up cheerios or wheat germ to coat them so they are easier to grasp.

  • I was also going to suggest avocado. DD is just turning 8 months, and that's one of the ones we're trying her out on. Another poster (not sure if it was on this board) mentioned boiling or steaming carrot sticks. We tried that with DD the other night, and it worked out well because I could kind of "shred" the end with a fork to make it a little softer, just so she could get used to it.

@Daisy622, shaking them in cheerios to coat them is such a great idea, I never would've thought of it, but I'll definitely be trying it when I give DD the avocado.
  • Some of DD's favorite foods are banana, peaches, cucumber, banana bread, pineapple, whole grain crackers, blackberries, peanut butter toast, baked chicken, hamburger, oranges, snap peas, and spaghetti (penne is easier for her to grab, otherwise I just cut the spaghetti/linguine noodles up into 2-3" pieces).
  • OP, I was wondering the same thing.  These are awesome suggestions, PPs!!!!!!!  Thanks!

  • My DD loves apple slices and cucumber sticks. I also give her raw carrot sticks, which she sucks on and enjoys. I'll sometimes give her a crusty piece of bread too.
