Vent: Fur Babies

I am SO mad at my cats today! I love them to pieces but they are pushing me over the edge.

My youngest cat, who is 6 years old, has taken her once cute "temper" to a whole new level... Hissing constantly. Last night as I passed her on the stairs she swiped at my ankle and hissed. She has never done this to me before. OMG!

This afternoon my middle cat, who is 12 years old, PEED on my diaper bag! No reason for this behaviour. All of DDs rattles etc were in there, plus her summer hat that I love. It's all sitting in the trash now. I'm so upset. I get that I can't give them as much attention as I used to but give me a break!

At least my the oldest one (14 years old) is still a good boy.

Anyone else with fur baby problems? :(

Re: Vent: Fur Babies

  • It is probably the change of an even more demanding baby, she is getting older now and probably wants more attention than she was a newborn, right?

Also, animals can detect stress, that might be what your youngest cat is experiencing... the middle aged one sounds like a dominance issue.

  • My dog's balls dropped with the baby's arrival cuz he barks like he is Rambo!! Super annoying and to top it off he barks like crazy, runs to check on the baby then barks more (while standing next to her and it scares her). :( he also does this when she is sleeping... I love him and he is great but it is taking everything in my power not to kill him

  • My 6 year old pomeranian just started peeing on the kitchen floor out of nowhere.. I guess he's also trying to show his frustration for lack of attention.

  • My dog peed all the time when my DS was born in 2011. I would get sooo pissed! I think it was because I was so stressed. This time around my dog hasn't peed even once and has had no problems. I guess she knew what to expect or I am just less stressed since she's my second baby. Pets can be so weird! That sucks so bad about your diaper bag. :-(

  • Oh man that sucks. Yep, having issues with our 3 yr old german shepherd. I just can't give him as much attention and he is starting to tear up some of T's toys and destroyed a book yesterday.
What's worse is when we have my 2 yr old nephew over he acts like he's scared of him, runs from him and barks at him. The last time he was over he nipped at him and I got so scared I put him in the laundry room. I'm getting really nervous, I feel like I can't trust him.

  • My yorkie has been driving me up a wall. He constantly barks and has just started peeing on the floor. I can't give him as much attention, but DH is still paying just as much attention to him.

  • I was worried my dogs would have issues but they really have both been great with and around the baby. I do make sure to spend time with just me and them though. Usually when LO is napping (sometimes its only 10-15 minutes) I play with them and snuggle them so they don't feel left out all the time. My older dog has left a couple of hard turds on the carpet upstairs once or twice but I'm not sure if he's being a brat or if he just didn't realize he had to go until too late.
  • One of my cats started peeing in house. Took her to vet & they said she had a UTI. Said that when cats cat stressed this can happen. So I am giving her two meds a day and keeping her in spare bedroom until she's been on meds a week. If this doesn't help then we will prob have to get rid of her. I don't want to but we are in a new house & I don't want floors ruined and I worry about when LO starts being mobile.
