Medela freestyle pump

I always see it recommended to replace the valves on the PISA pumps every few months or when suction decreases. What about the Freestyle? I went to buy new valves & it looks like it's only possible to replace the entire valve assembly at $25 a pop, which made me wonder if it's necessary to do. Anyone with a Freestyle who can tell me what they do with pump maintenance? TIA!

Re: Medela freestyle pump

  • I got a freestyle when my DD was born 2.5 years ago and used it 3 months to EP. I bought all new spare parts when DS was born 3.5 months ago but honestly can't tell which are old and which are new. I get the same output with both sets.

  • Ok, thanks! Maybe I won't worry about it then...
  • I've gotten a spare parts kit for the Freestyle at Target for less than 20 bucks! Amazons price is pretty good too. I haven't had to replace, just wanted an extra set.
  • I have 2 sets (just so I can wash every other day), and I've been using my pump daily for the last 12 months, and not had to replace them.

  • I don't believe you need to replace them. I have 2 sets--- just in case I forget one at work but have yet to have a decrease in performance of the parts.
