disney meals w/ characters-whats the cancellation policy?

I can't seem to find this online...we are looking at a disney trip in February so booking those meals can be done in August... but I am curious about the cancellation policy, as we haven't booked anything else yet, but I want to be sure to get a couple of those in.

Also which character meal is good for a 4 yr old boy? I feel like everything is so princess focused and he is not *that* into the mickey mouse characters though I'm sure he'd like that.
Thanks.

  • Not sure about cancellation, but Chef Mickey is the traditional Disney (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy) characters. We went for breakfast and the buffet options were overwhelming!

  • Another vote for chef Mickey-breakfast or dinner. We also enjoyed the Cape may cafe at Disney beach club? I would call the restaurant to confirm cancellation policy.

  • I was given the specific cancellation policy when I booked the character meal (we went in July and did a character lunch at Hollywood Studios b/c my girls are crazy about Jake the Neverland Pirate).

I had to put down a deposit to make the reservation and the cancellation policy was something like you had to cancel 48? 72? hours in advance or else they charge you a fairly hefty fee. I don't remember the exact details, but it's one of the more strict reservation policies I've ever run into, for sure.

Non-character meals have a much less stringent policy, but they're also way less popular.

I think as long as you have your confirmation number, and cancel 48hrs in advance then you should be fine.  Please don't quote me on this.

Also I go to: disboards(dot)com to help with any disney specific vacations - they have a forum of friendly frequenters just like thenest.

DH and I took DS and my mom to the Grand Floridian Character Breakfast (I think with tip it was around $100.00)  So worth the $$ though -  It was amazing!!!!  The food was 5 star (character breakfasts are buffet style, but this didn't taste buffet at all.  The downside?  You won't be seeing the "top 5."  They had: Tigger, Pooh, Alice, the Mad Hatter and Mary Poppins (since they rotate, Tigger & Pooh we saw twice).   We loved DS' reaction to seeing the characters up close...we will be going again.  We left with a Cars2 Cup (ordered off the menu), had a birthday cake (my moms 60th), and they gave us special occasion placemats signed by all the frequently visited characters.

  • O'hana Breakfast was wonderful food and you get to see Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Lilo, and Stitch.  I had no idea that my son liked Lilo and Stitch until saw Stitch at Hollywood Studio without Lilo.  He wanted to know where Lilo was and why she was not with Stitch.  LOL.
  • We loved the breakfast at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom.   The food was so good!  The characters were Donald (you meet him outside), Goofy, Daisy, and Mickey.  They are all dressed in safari gear.  So fun!    Also, if you like the Pooh characters, Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom is such a great restaurant, it's beautiful and the food is good.

We went in January and the cancellation policy was 24 hours in advance or you would be charged $10 per person if you did not show up.  That's for the restaurants that required a credit card hold, which now a fair number of them require.
