We have the Foonf by clek. We love it! It goes up to 45-50lbs rearfacing and 65lbs forward facing, it is made mostly with metal not plastic, has a crumple zone when forward facing (like cars do. When hit there is a spot on the car that should crumple first to take some of the force off the people inside). And it is recycleable when you are done with It. Oh and it comes in great colors. The cons would be the price and its weight. It is 45 lbs so if you switch cars a lot that is something to think of. We are getting a second, cheaper carseat for my parents so I don't have to switch it since they only drive her once in awhile / near by.
We have a Britax. He is still RFing but he's going to outgrow the height in another year. I'm thinking about switching to the Radian to keep him RFing longer.
I got five 7 and a half down to six months. DD1 is seven and a half is in a Recaro Prosport harnessed car seat. It harnesses until 90 pounds. I love this seat, as does she. She is quite comfortable. DD2 is nearly six, August 22. She is currently FF in a RXT, but is wanting to go rear facing again. I have a Foonf in my garage, and will put her rear facing again in August when we get our new van. She rear faced until February. Nephew (we are adopting in 3 days) is 2 and a half, he is RF in an RXT. He will be rear facing until at least 4. He is not quite 30 pounds and stands about 35 inches tall. DD3 will be 1 on August 20th. She is rear facing in her bucket seat still. She rides in a Britax Chaperone. She too will get a different seat when we pick up our new van. She is moving into DD2 RXT. Niece (Adopting in 3 days) is 6 months. She rides rear facing in a Cybex Aton 2013 addition. She is moving into a Combi Coccoro at the end of August. We travel often. We live in Florida, but are currently in Canada for the summer. We flew from Canada to Italy for two weeks in July and we are planning on going to Ireland in November. Summer is boostered while we travel, in a bubble bum, but the other kids ride in their car seats as listed. Everyone has a ticket when we travel. We don't use the lap child option. These seats are what we haul onto and off of the plane.
We have a Britax Blvd 70 CS in our main car and a Britax Marathon 70 in our other car. Both RF until 40 lbs. Considering my almost 3 year old isn't 30 pounds yet this seat will last us a long time. My infant is in a Chicco keyfit 30.
My 7 year old is currently harnessed in a graco nautilus but will be getting him a diono monterey cause he has outgrown nautilus by weight and am giving to my 4.5 year old son.
My big (4.5 years) is in a Graco Nautilus, still in the 5 pt harness. My little (2.5 and tiny) is in a Britax Marathon in one car and a Cosco Scenera in the other. Wouldn't rec the Cosco for a bigger kid since I think the WL is 40 pounds.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind."
- Kurt Vonnegut
DD1 is 3.5 and harnessed in a Graco Nautilus. DD2 is about to turn 2 and is RFing in an Evenflo Triumph. It's probably one of the shorter shells for RFing convertibles, but it kept my 85% for height DD1 RFing to 2y9m, and since DD2 is very small I expect it will keep her RFing until at least 3yo.

There is a FB group called Car Seats for the Littles. It is run by techs. You can post your kids' height/weight/clothing size and make/model of your car, and they will recommend seats for you. It is such a great resource.
We have a Recaro ProRide... he is very comfortable in it and I feel good knowing that he is well protected!

I have two Primo Viaggio SIP 5-70 Convertible carseats for exactly that reason. My SIL gave me hers after my nephew grew out of it and when I had DS2 I decided to invest in another one that I found on Bambi Baby.
Evenflo Symphony--both my 5 yo and my 3.5 yo are in them; love that they are super easy to install--great safety ratings and while not inexpensive, they arent as expensive as a Britax (and if memory serves, their safety ratings were equivalent if not Evenflo's better)
