April 2014 Moms

Have you bought anything baby-related yet?

A part of me is nervous to still... almost like buying anything before your wedding before getting engaged is bad luck. Only thing I just bought yesterday was a pair of booties because we are using them to tell my parent's they are going to be grandparents. I went to buy some pregnancy books on amazon this morning, had them in my cart, then canceled it. I just want to get to that 12 week "safety" zone....

  • No - I just can't do it until after the first appointment, at least.

  • I bought a few décor items (for a girl) that were on clearance for half price! Curtains that I love, a wall hanging and a basket with liner that matches the curtains, nothing too babyish! My initial instinct was that I am having a girl, and if I am wrong I figure I will eventually have a girl and be able to use these things! Although I was having dreams about a girl before I even got my positive pregnancy test! We have two large rooms that we planned on being kids rooms, one for boys and one for girls. The boys room is already decorated for my son and if we have another boy we will just rearrange things to make room. So I figured I should get started on the girls room! It is going to need painted and new carpet put in! And if we do not have a girl just yet it will stay our guest bedroom.... it will just be decorated a little girly! :D

  • No, I'm too superstitious. We won't be buying any baby things until probably 25- 28 weeks for anything big and for sure I won't be buying anything at all until I'm comfortably in the 2nd trimester. As far as pregnancy things I've bought a book, workout dvd and a black maternity shirt because I was feeling super bloated.

  • No, I'll probably really get going after we find out boy or girl.

We only really need nursery furniture & decor. We'll need some clothes either way since DS was a winter baby. The car seat & other big items are all gender neutral.

  • No, I'm also waiting to find out boy or girl.

Also I'm planning on doing alot of my shopping during boxing week sales which turns out to be perfect since I will be around 6 months then.

  • No.  My last pregnancy (ended in a mmc at 11 weeks) some family members bought us small baby-related items for Christmas even though we specifically asked them not to.  It meant opening baby stuff on Christmas Day three weeks after my D&C.  Not fun :-(

I think we we hold off buying stuff until well into the second tri, and hopefully people will respect our wishes this time and not buy us anything before we tell them it's okay.

  • Nope. We will wait until after the 12 week mark, and even then it will be random little things. Once we find out the sex we will buy more and feel more comfortable slowly buying things for baby. My youngest will be 6 when this LO is born, but I'm not sure if anyone will throw a shower or not, we're just planning on buying things ourselves slowly from 20 weeks on. =)

  • Not yet, but I'm mentally preparing. I've been thinking that we'll move Goober to the second bedroom, and keep the nursery as is for the new baby. Goober can finally move to a big boy bed. If it's another boy, I'll still need some clothes. They will be born in opposing seasons (of course!), so all those winter 0-3 clothes I packed away from Goober won't fly with the new baby.

I sincerely doubt I'll buy anything until around 30 weeks.
I've probably been on The Bump longer than you have.

  • Sorry, but I find this a little odd.  How do you know you will eventually have a girl? You could have 10 children and all them be boys.  It just seems strange to decorate for a girl since you may one day have one.

I was thinking the same thing. You're just asking to have a house full of boys. Haha I know a lot of people that have all girls and all boys.

  • I bought Fit Pregnancy magazine (what a joke- it's all ads) and my husband picked up a book on nutrition for me. We agree not to buy stuff until the second trimester at the earliest, and the spreadsheet will be coming soon to get a handle on all the stuff we'll need. It's a bit daunting, especially since we plan to move in December during his semester break.
  • I'm too nervous to buy anything, I will wait until the end of my second trimester. My mum is knitting a shawl, I knows she's doing it even although she hasn't told me.

Not yet but I did walk around babys r us and I'm really excited about all the cool new stuff that's out :)

  • I have not personally bought anything except a book and a pregnancy pillow, DH bought me a couple books and the miracle pregnancy ball. Other than that, I have received a couple gifts from my sister and best friend. I know my mom is crocheting a baby blanket as well. As a FTM, I know DH and I will feel way more comfortable starting to purchase once I have reached 14 weeks after we find out gender. I would assume its way more fun then anyway!
  • I already have a one year old so i will only buy things after i know if it's a boy or a girl.

  • I'm still afraid a million things can go wrong with this pg, but I found 2 clearance buys that I couldn't pass.  Last weekend I found a bouncer that I liked for $17 and yesterday I found a pair of maternity jeans in a petite size for $6!!  We've definitely looked at some other things, including a bigger bed for ds since the baby will need the crib and the sit n' stand stroller.  But no more shopping until 2nd tri :)

be careful, though!  when we ordered our nursery furniture, there was a 12 week shipping schedule.  we ordered in the mid teens and by the time it arrived, i was starting to sweat it out a bit because i was in my third tri and wanted to get a move on with decorating the room.

i'd think christmas time would be a perfect time to shop for the big stuff...  that's enough time to account for shipping delays, but late enough that you'd probably already have had the anatomy scan to be sure all is well with the pregnancy.
  • We kept all of DS's stuff and will be using most of the gear again. If this one is a girl we'll get some girly stuff (and OMG the clothes!) after we find out. For now I bought some military camo onesies and a gender neutral sleep set to tell DH. He gets home today and I can't wait to clue him in!

I bought curtains, a wall hanging and a basket which can be used to decorate either the current spare bedroom or a girls room. I guess the things are not baby specific. They are just a purple floral print and right now the room is all white and plain with just an extra bed in there and no décor at all. You are right that I can't know for sure I will eventually have a girl but I am optimistic that I will. We plan on having a large family (hopefully not as large as ten) but I think the odds are good one of them will be a girl! If we have another boy then he will share the room I have my son in because it is plenty big and we will keep the spare room for guests like we do now. All my husbands family live out of state anyhow and it is nice to have that spare room when they come and stay!

  • I'm hoping to hold off for quite a while (2nd tri or later), but I get a little out of control when I see a good deal so we'll see what happens!

Wow 12 weeks, that's crazy! I never would have expected that, guess I'll have to loosen up on that then. :)

  • I bought two diapers just 'cause.  And a nursing pillow and a sling because they were super super cheap.  And a shirt for the reveal picture.

  • Since we found out that we are having twins we are thinking about buying bulk diapers and wipes but no clothes or anything yet. We were looking at double strollers and pack and plays since we will everything times two!
  • I was ordering DD a few things from the big Gap sale last week and couldn't pass up a new tiny onesie and lion sleeper. Yes, anything could still happen but my last pregnancy was so stressful that I'm trying hard to be as joyful as possible with this one, at least until I have any reason to act otherwise!

  • Not yet! Thankfully we have almost everything from the first one, I am actually quite pleased, though I enjoyed shopping for the first, it was quite expensive! Will buy a bit of new clothes and linens for this one though when we get to a few more months along! Especially if it's a girl!

  • I haven't purchased anything, but I was given my first baby item when we told my in-laws this weekend, and it sounds like there will be a lot more where that came from!
  • While we haven't purchased anything yet my SIL had twins in April and called the other day offering to give us all the stuff they aren't using.
  • I've been buying clothes here and there for years in anticipation. I just couldn't help myself! :\">
  • No "baby" things but I did buy a pregnancy book (since I seem to have a billion questions) and I did buy a belly band pants extender since I am so bloated... I feel I may need to use it sooner than I think?? Oye :/
