C-sections

How does anterior placenta affect c-section?

Hi ladies,

I am trying for a VBAC this time around, but have a question in case I end up with a repeat c/s. Does/how does an anterior placenta affect a c/s?

Thanks!!

Re: How does anterior placenta affect c-section?

  • I had a low lying anterior placenta. It was a previa that cleared up by 32 weeks. It didn't affect my csection. They were able to do a bikini cut. I think they can alter how the cut the uterus without changing to a vertical cut. I remember there was some worry about what they would have to do when we got in there but everything went fine. I wouldn't be concerned.

  • I had complete placenta previa with an anterior placenta. I had the normal bikini cut but did have more blood loss than normal. This was most likely due to the previa and not the anterior placenta.

  • I had an unplanned c-section.  I also had an anterior placenta.  Doctor never said anything about it, but I had read that many women with an anterior placenta wind up having a c-section b/c the baby usually settles sunny side up making it difficult for lo to position correctly.  Which is what happened to me.  Not every woman has this problem but many do (I don't remember the percent), but even with it they go on to have successful non-csection deliveries.  Good luck
