Postpartum Depression

Natural...

I'm having my second baby and have seen that it seems to be more common to get PPD with your second. I am looking for some natural suggestions that have really worked for people for preventing and/or helping with symptoms of PPD. I'm not going into this expecting to get it, I just want to be prepared. 

 A friend of mine started eating Paleo and it really helped her with her PPD- but I'm open to other natural cures/preventions anyone might have!

  • I find taking time for you when you can I know it's hard really helps. I practice yoga and meditation, cut out caffeine, take omega 3 fatty acids fish oil, drink teas like lemon balm, and try and have someone to talk about your feelings with. The key is letting it out, don't hold in your feeling and try and be superwoman, it's ok to put it out there and ask for help. Us mamas need to stick together!   • Agree with above.  I don't think it is more common with your 2nd.  It may seem like that but I don't know that there is any evidence.  In addition to what was already stated you might want to look into having your placenta encapsulated.  I continue to take mine now that I am back in cycles because my PMS gets so bad (I just take them post ovulation).  The capsules seem to help with my mood and I have a ton more energy.

  • I tried everything to climb out of my PPD, it was the darkest hell I've ever experienced. After trying 2 different antidepressants I finally spent weeks on the Internet researching natural remedies and what I found is that your body gets depleted of certain things during pregnancy. Looooong story short: from the first day of taking these pills, I began to feel better and haven't had a dark day since! Btw I stopped breastfeeding so I could take these pills and heal! 5HTP, B complex, magnesium, zinc, evening primrose oil and wellness formula. I take about 15 pills throughout the day, all natural from whole foods and it has literally saved my life! Please do your own research on these pills, I don't know where or who I would be without them!
