Who's an emotional mess? .....this guy!

Although I have been going to training a and meetings all week, we officially start back to school Wednesday. And I am a freakin mess! Not because I am having a hard time being away from LO... I dealt with that weeks ago. But I am seriously stressing about how to work full time and take care of LO, the house, and extra work that is brought home. Contrary to what people make think, teaching is not a 9-5 job....it takes far more time and attention on week nights and weekends. Plus hubby does not help around the house the way I wish he would. For those of you who seem to have it under control, any tips on managing a baby, a household, and a full time job?

  • No help here, but I also teach and go back soon. I am so scared to leave DS at daycare - he is demanding and she has lots of kids to watch. DH is helpful but the house will be a mess and we will not eat good meals as much as I'd like. I'm stressed just thinking about it. :-S

I am in the same boat as you guys. I teach high school English. I've decided that I'm simply not bringing work home. I will get to work early and stay late, but when I leave, I am done. I need separation between my work and home lives, and I am not going to let work cut into time with my son after I leave for the day. I will just have to be super productive while I am at work.

As for cleaning, DH and I always spend a few hours on Sunday mornings cleaning house.if things get a bit messy by the end of the week, oh well. I won't be living in filth, but I also prioritize family time over cleaning.

  • I'm not a teacher, but have a job where I usually bring work home and travel a bit. I have two kiddos so keeping it all together is too much stress, so I don't. I do the best I can and that has to be enough. If a cleaning lady is in the budget, hire one! Even if it's once a month. Somethings got to give and that's completely okay. Determine what is most important to you to do/get done and prioritize that way.

I go back to work on Monday and I'm going to try to set a schedule where I do certain small cleaning tasks each night rather than spend the weekend cleaning. There are some great online resources that have suggestions for this and I'm going to give it a shot.

@phill027 Click the paper with the red arrows on it. Then you can create paragraphs using return rather than having to code them in HTML. HTH.

  • I also work for the school district. I start back Monday. I have been thinking a lot about this lately. How am I going to keep it all together when I am back at work?!?! It's already hard to get everything done and forget having a social life anymore. We are short staffed this year and they have laid a couple of people off this year, so I know there will. E plenty of work and not enough time to get it done. I am working to contract this year....no extras! They have me 8-330 and that is it.

  • Pp I've been following a weekly cleaning list from Pinterest for two weeks! I've accomplished every day except bathrooms because I hate that job. :) the menu planning on Saturdays has been really great.

  • I'm not a teacher, but I have a billable hour requirement and two kids. I work 8-3:30. That gives me enough time to get both kids home with enough time to get everyone home, fed and in bed by 7:30. After that, I prep clothes and bottles for the next day and then shower before getting into bed at 9. Some nights I have to work after the kids go to bed in which case I enlist my husband for help or shower the next day. He also gets my son ready and to day care in the morning and I take my daughter to her day care and get her ready. My husband works a 9-6, my son is in day care near our house and my daughter is in day care near my office in the city.

We have a cleaning lady. No way we could get it done without her. My husband does all the cooking for the week on Sundays. He also does the grocery shopping and takes one of the kids with him.

Good luck! It can be done, and it gets progressively easier as kids get older.

@MCK12/22/2006 would you mind sharing the link to the list that you're using?

This is my exact plan.  I am writing new curriculum and lesson planning all this month.  I'm also learning how to make pre-made slow cooker meals on Sundays.  The plan is to get up early on Sundays to do the food shopping while dh stays home with lo and then spend an hour or two doing meal prep for the week.  Also, I've been getting lo ready for bed between 7;30 n 8 so he out by 8:30/9 and I have some time for myself.  DH works too, but he works from home so he helps with dishes and light housework.

My biggest worry is pumping.  I have a lot of meetings after school and I can't be late since I facilitate them.

It will all work out.  Try not stress and remember a messy house is not a big deal.
  • No problem! It takes a few clicks to get to a blank one you can download and fill in with your own needs. On mobile so not clicky.
