postpartum clothing

Hi Everyone,

Any good recommendations for postpartum clothing? Good nursing tanks/sweats? I assume when I leave the hospital I will still have a "belly" so ideally something that helps disguise that area. What is everyone's favorite?

thanks!

Re: postpartum clothing

  • Nursing tank and comfy pants.  I wore black pajama pants that looked like yoga pants.  That's what I wore in the hospital as well.  And a lightweight terry robe from Nordstrom.   Plan to look about 6 months pregnant when you head home.

  • Target tanks and tees are very comfy and I love their nursing bras and the sleep bras. I have been wearing maternity leggings and some comfy skirts.
  • Hi,

Thanks everyone. Does anyone ave favorite brands of nursing tanks? Those that are supportive enough, long enough, and flattering to a little bit "extra belly" at first?

    thanks!

  • I wore a nursing tank from target that is a Henley style. I got one size up from my pre pregnancy size. I wore my own yoga pants as well. I still love the tank and went back and got a second color.

  • I wore nursing tanks and yoga pants but to leave the hospital I wore a maxi dress and tank. Extremely comfortable but remember you are going to look about 6 months pregnant

  • I wear Target nursing tanks every single day and even sleep in them.  If I have company or go out, I throw on a maternity T-shirt by LizLange from Target.  They don't have rouching and go with everything...skirts and jeans.  For bottoms around the house I wear Danskin drawstring pants from WalMart or yoga pants.  The Danskins are a very relaxed fit so they don't hug my big butt like yoga pants do.  I *could* wear them to the grocery store in a pinch for a quick in and out thing.

  • Old Navy stuff falls apart, but it is cheap. Gap and Old Navy have great nursing tanks and some roll over yoga pants and skirts. I just received a shipment yesterday. It feels weird still ordering "maternity," but people are saying that I'm getting my figure back (all smoke and mirrors)!
  • I like the nursing tanks from Mothehood. The Target ones aren't as comfy for me. For extra support the Bravado tanks (Medela now?) are good but expensive. I just wear yoga pants and my smaller maternity clothes at first. It all depends on how quickly you loose weight and your ute shrinks if you will need anything else. I'm 4 weeks pp and I can now wear a lot of my regular clothes...just not my smaller ones.

  • I'll ditto the PPs on the Target nursing tanks, and I found two on sale, one larger than my pre-maternity size and one in my regular size. Theyre both nice and long and cover the post-partum pooch pretty well, in addition to a pair of full-panel mat jeans that are comfy over a csection incision site..

  • Thanks everyone for your thoughts. This is my first baby, so I have no idea what to expect as far as how i will look, feel, or fit into clothes after the c-section.

    thanks!

Leave the hospital in sweat pants. just do. I was back in my normal clothes by 3-4 weeks pp, but I still had to leave the hospital in sweats.

I nurse and have never used a nursing tank or bra. I Just pull it all up. Honestly, my shirt and bra pulled up hide my boob better than flopping it out of the top of a nursing tank.. Plus I don't nurse in front of others without a cover (except DH).

Bring comfy clothes for the hospital and then wait to see what you need afterwards. You might be back in pp clothes sooner than you think, and if not, you can get exactly what you need when the time comes. At that point you'll probably be dying to get out of the house anyway!
