Advice - what to write in a card

DH's co-worker / friend and his wife had a baby back in December.  I meant to send a gift then, but never did.  We are now meeting their daughter for the first time, and I did buy a gift for her, but am not sure what I should write in the card.  It's not like it's her birthday and she's not a newborn.  What I want to write is - Sorry I'm an idiot and was too busy to formally acknowledge your new baby - sorry, hope this makes up for it!  Obviously that won't work though - any suggestions?

    I would keep it simple.  Dear Baby x, we are so happy to finally meet you.  We hope that you and dd become great friends!  We hope we get to see you more often in the future.  Love, significant, dh and dd

    I like this too. FWIW, we had a GTG when DS was about 10 mo old with some of my coworkers that had babies in the months after I did. They brought us gifts for him for the first time then. So I don't think it's all that unheard of.
