1st Trimester

Weight Gain Blues

This is my third pregnancy, my youngest is 7, so it's been a while. I just started week 13 and I've gained 7 pounds and my belly is bulging. I am excited to be pregnant, but depressed about weight gain. I had just this past year gotten to my ideal weight and being a health professional, weight is almost alway on my mind. I feel more in attractive and gross than I remember with my other two. Mostly needing to vent to women about vanity, but still, can't kick the blues.

Re: Weight Gain Blues

  • This is my first pregnancy.  I just got married in June so for the last 6 months I have been a maniac eating super clean, gym in the am, and pilates at night.  Got my body to a point that I was super excited about.  I am 6 weeks and 1 days today.. I went to the doctor on Wednesday last week at 5 weeks and weighed 112.5  - went back yesterday and was 116!  I have been completely constipated for the last 2 weeks...but 4 pounds this early seems crazy.  And since I spotted a little yesterday the doctor said no exercising this week. Ugh... but obviously whatever is best for the baby :-)

  • I feel for you. I am dreading the weight gain too, but we lost the weight before and we'll do it again.

I'm feeling bloated already at 6 weeks. I'm still going to the gym, but I'm also stuffing my face.

  • I feel very similar.  This is my first pregnancy and I was very happy with my body prior.  I am 12 weeks and although I've only gained a few lbs, if any, my body feels so different.  My waist is thick, my hips feel big and my boobs are out of control.  I had high hopes of being one of those women that remains pretty slim throughout with an adorable little bump.  But, I feel like a total blob and not attractive at all.  The last few nights, I've done the thing where I put on and discard 4-5 outfits before I can find something suitable to wear.  Its frustrating.
  • I hear you sista! I had an appointment at 5 weeks and 7 weeks. In those 2 weeks I gained 3 pounds! It is waaaaaayyyyy too early to be gaining so much weight! I thought I'd lose a little in 1st tri before packing it on the rest of the pregnancy! But it's all for a good cause!

  • I am mostly worried about the comments people will make about my weight as I gain it. I am naturally thin and I am pretty certain people will have a field day when I start filling out. I also am a pilates instructor and a dance instructor and I am constantly surrounded by women who are obsessed with their bodies. This is my first so I have no idea what to expect, and if I will have a hard time losing the weight afterwards. I was looking at Maternity clothes online today trying to get excited about the bump :) Some of them are SUPER cute!

CharleyRose- People scare the crap out out of women making them think they'll gain all this weight and never lose it after the baby and their bodies will never be the same without surgery. It's just not true ::ducks::
You shouldn't have a hard time losing weight afterwards, your body goes back to normal. I gained 40 pounds with DD, and was able to get back down to PP weight, and even looked better for awhile.

Did it happen right away? No. But it did happen.

In general with your first you don't show for awhile anyways and it sounds like your pretty active. Don't worry :)

  • @CharleyRose I hear you! I'm a pilates & yoga teacher and beachbody coach. People don't know I'm pregnant and I can only imagine what people are saying as i've already gained 5 pounds. My plan is to keep eating clean and working out and just hoping for the best, but I feel so FAT. :(

  • Ditto! I'm 8 weeks 5 days and have gained 5 lbs. I was very active before and I haven't been able to work out at all since the middle of week 5. I'm always so sick and tired. But, even though I'm sick, I still get SO hungry! It's the craziest feeling! You'd think being sick would deter from my hunger, but if I don't eat every few hours I get even MORE nauseous.

I'm hoping the nausea and fatigue will lighten in trimester 2 and I'll be able to start working out again. I found a ton of awesome tri 2 workouts on YouTube.

DEL14, I am right there with you! I keep trying to wear the yoga style tops that are a little baggier on the bottom so my clients will not be like, "where the hell did she get that muffin top!?!" HA! Is this your first pregnancy? Are you eliminating any of the deep abdominal exercises like neck pull or the ab series, or hundreds? I assume they are ok until we get further along and can't be flat on our backs? Good luck to you!
