Mesh bumpers??

Sheesh! So many new things happening make for so many questions lol! What are thoughts/opinions on the mesh bumpers? DS woke up last night when his foot got caught between his crib slats and I freaked out. He is a very squirmy sleeper and I'm nervous about bumpers but his foot being stuck scared me.

Re: Mesh bumpers??

  • We bought these and then my pedi freaked out about them. He said even they aren't safe. I wish we could use them because my DS smacks his head on the side if the crib because he rolls all over in there. He also sticks his limbs out if the crib. Their face can become wedged between the matress and the bumper. Most of us had bumpers as children and lived to talk about it BUT once there is some risk then it just makes me too nervous to continue.

  • We have them & honestly that's not high on my list of safety issues for dd.
  • My son only had his arm or leg stuck in the bars s handful of times. If its mesh I don't see how it would help when they bump their head. Sounds like a waste to me.

  • I had the breathable mesh bumpers for my daughter, and I purchased another set this time around too. If you put your face up to it, you can see that they are breathable. They do in fact give a lot of cushion too. I highly recommend them, but its one of those things you're either comfortable with or you're not.

We put the mesh bumpers on the outside of the crib so no limbs can go through and lo cant lean against the bumper
  • I'm not trying to be rude, but how can no limbs get out if its on the outside? They'd still be able to push a leg out and get stuck..

  • Shoot, I have regular bumpers in the crib!

I do have breathable bumpers in my older sons crib and I don't like them. It might be because he can stand, but they slouch really bad and are pretty pointless in doing their job. I would imagine they work fine for a younger baby but be prepared for them to be ruined once they can pull up.

  • We have regular bumpers right now.  I know other folks aren't comfortable with that but LO doesn't move at night yet.  If she starts shifting I may move the bumpers off.

  • We but the bumper tight against the crib along the outside and dd can get her foot to touch the bumper through the slates but her whole limb cant get through or stuck.
  • I've had regular bumpers for all three kids. I'm thinking about taking them out now that DS is more active in there. So far, a kid has gotten a limb stuck once in 5 years and she was 2 when it happened AND it happened with a bumper. I thought the breathable bumpers went in and out of the slats, so the chance of head smacking is still pretty high.
