Ruptured membranes

I'm 38+3 weeks and my membranes ruptured this morning. I'm hanging out hoping that labour starts, really don't want to be induced which will happen tomorrow if I don't go into labour naturally!!

Re: Ruptured membranes

  • Good luck, although I hope you called your ob to let them know your water broke

Although I am surprised they haven't started inducing you already?

  • I was told to go straight to L&D if my water broke.

  • Good luck!
  • My doc told me today that as soon as my water breaks I better head to the hospital. I hope you've done the same by now.

  • Are you GBS positive? If so, you need to go to the hospital right away.

I was GBS neg w my first and the on call dr told me it was fine to labor at home for a few hours. Contrax started a couple hours after my water broke and were 5 min apart 5 to 7 hours later.

But I'd still call regardless and see what your hospital prefers

  • It's fine, thanks for your concern but I've been in to l&d checked and sent home again. Have irregular tightenings, but if I don't go into labour naturally ill be induced in the am. So I'm just hoping things crack on naturally!

Yes! Good luck!! Try nipple stimulation! This exact thing happened when I was pregnant with DS2. I never kicked into labor on my own. Use a breast pump and don't turn it off. But, make sure you talk to your midwife/ob.

Plus it's 24 hours so if you wait a few hours its fine (going in)

  • Risk of infection is quite small as long as no vaginal exams are done.  Hope your labor moves a long well and that you will be holding your baby soon!   Unless you need abx ASAP for GBS, most women don't have to rush off to L&D when their water breaks.
