Babies: 6 - 9 Months

My baby doesn't want his bottle

I believe it's due to teething, but lately my son will only drink about 3-4 oz of his bottle.  It's really hard for me to get him to drink the minimum amount of formula he needs.  He eats his baby food like a champ though, but I know that that is not what is most important for him.  Just wondering if this is normal and what I should do.  I have twins, and the other baby has 2 teeth already but never had any issues drinking his bottle.  The one I have the trouble with still has no teeth.

Re: My baby doesn't want his bottle

  • We are going through the exact same thing. I've been having this problem with my son who is a week shy of 8 months old. He has always had 6 oz at each feeding and now getting him to drink 3 is a challenge. He takes the bottle out and even throws the bottle numerous times. I am having trouble with him getting the necessary oz when before he was a very hearty eater. He's been eating solids like a champs as well. I was thinking it may be that he is getting frustrated with the flow of the milk. I am heading to the store today to get faster flow nipples. He has a tooth by the way and it didn't effect his eating when it was coming through. I'll update if the change in nipple helps.

  • we have the fast flowing nipples too, so I don't think that is the prob for us.  I think I may just call our ped.

  • He is probably teething. At least that's what happened to us. For a week or so he would only take 3-4 oz but would eat his solids, I thought it was because I was feeding him too many solids but then the tooth poop through and he went back to normal. You can also check nipple size. Maybe it's too slow

  • Are you giving him the bottle before or after the regular food? Have you tried giving him a sippy cup or straw cup? DD loves gnawing on the spout of her sippy when her teeth are bothering her, plus it's a faster flow, so he might like that.

I give him the bottle first. I can try the sippy cup, he does need more practice with that.  Never thought of a straw cup.  I'm a FTM so I didn't even know that was an option at this age.  Thanks!
