Diaper leaking at night....frustration! Help!

Any suggestions for baby's leaky over night diaper problems? I tried going up at size at night (using Pampers Baby Dry), and she still leaked through by 3 am. Nothing like changing diaper/outfit/swaddle at 3 am. They don't make the overnight diapers until size 3, and she is only in a 1....and suggestions??

Re: Diaper leaking at night....frustration! Help!

  • I'm fairly certain it's a good idea to change them relatively often in the first couple of months, probably why there are no overnights in the smaller sizes.

  • she is 2 months old, and would sleep 7-8hr stretches if her diaper wasn't leaking.
  • I've personally had really good luck with the Huggies Snug & Dry brand. Sometimes trying a different brand diaper can do the trick & the Snug & Dry ones seem to hold quite a lot without leaking. I don't have any personal experience with this, but I've talked to a few people who have had success with adding one of those cloth diaper inserts to the disposable diaper at night. If you wanted to try that route I'm sure the ladies on the cloth diapering board would have some suggestions. Good luck!

  • It's the Pampers...I actually cannot stand them. For the most expensive diaper out there, we had the SAME problem during the night. I would go to get LO in the morning and it was like her butt felt moist all the time, they're awful! I've had excellent luck with Luvs. Cheaper and turns out...better!

I forgot, I tried Luvs as well, it does work well lol.

  • I agree, I don't like the pampers. We have the ones that are supposed to be best for the longer overnight stretches (I think it's baby dry?) and I see no difference from the huggies little snugglers that I switched from.
  • We use pampers swaddlers and love them. We used huggies that were sent home from the hospital with us and they leaked all the time.

  • My sister has a toddler who pees a lot overnight, and they put diaper booster pads in his diaper. I am not sure if these are meant for younger babies, but it's worth checking out.
  • We use huggies snug and dry and have had no problem. Ds is in size 1. He slept 4 hours last night and woke up with the wettest diaper he has had yet. But he was try, his onsie and swaddler were all dry!
  • Maybe change brands. I see most people like huggies but my LO leaked thru every last one of them. Pampers are working great for us now. Different diapers are different for each child so maybe huggies will work for your LO.
  • Cloth diapers.

This...we tried a handful of different disposables overnight (we cloth diaper part time) and he leaked through all of them by his first MOTN feeding (in the diaper 3-4.5 hours). The only thing he doesn't leak through is his cloth diapers. With those I don't even have to change him at night (he doesn't poop at night anymore).

    Try double diapering.

Or, if you're willing to try cloth, you can try a double-stuffed pocket diaper. Or like pp suggested, use a cloth insert inside the disposable diaper. I'd recommend a cheap bamboo insert, as they're less bulky, absorbent, and can go against baby's skin (microfiber inserts should not go against skin).

  • My lo always leaks in huggies. But pampered swaddlers which used to be great for her have been leaking ever since she went from size 1 to 2. So i have been experimenting. I am trying luvs right now and so far its better than swaddlers. I haven't tried baby dry yet, that's next.

  • Cloth diapering at night is a great idea.  You don't have to invest much (just 3-4 diapers) and they really do work well at night.  But if you don't want to do that, just play around with different brands for a while, you'll find the one that works for you.  We've tried several different brands so far to find the one that works the best.

We've tried Pampers, Huggies, Target, and Naty brand.  By far the Huggies and the Pampers were the worst.  The Huggies leaked every time, day and night, and even when he didn't pee a lot.  But we were also using the NB size since his cord was still attached which cause him to leak out the top where the stump dip was.  The Pampers leaked out the side (my kid has chicken legs) about half the time at night.  The Target brand, which he's wearing now, has only leaked once on a really heavy pee day so I'm happy with them.  But Naty has been my favorite- he wore those for two weeks without a single leak and I would have kept him in those but I can't find them anywhere here.
