DS is now 4 months old and still LOVES to be swaddled, but is starting to break out of them. We have already been thru the Halo Sleep sacks and SwaddleMe's. My question is should I just start with going cold turkey on him being swaddled? I feel like if I continue to keep trying to find swaddles that will work for him, I am only delaying the inevitable. Because at some point we are going to have to go cold turkey, right? Because isn't this about the age that swaddling becomes more dangerous as they can start rolling over? He seriously sleeps so much better being swaddled but not sure how much longer I can continue swaddling him for. And what other products out there might even work.
TIA.
Re: To continue swaddling or not?
Don't quit cold turkey if he's still got his startle reflex. And with babies in general I would not just quit cold turkey.
it's really hard to say. The reason is babies all liked to be swaddled for different reasons-some babies like the feeling of being "cocooned" and cuddled, some babies see it as a cue to go to sleep and some need it to muffle their startle reflex. If it isn't for their startle reflex, than you can probably do cold turkey, have a few rough nights, then your baby will sleep as they did. If it's because their reflex wakes them up, then I would continue to swaddle as much as possible. maybe just around the arms if necessary.
we did magic sleep suit, and it worked great for our LO.
