Supplements to help with behaviors?

My son has SPD, someone had told me once that their child had this and they sought out supplements to help and saw great improvements in behavior, focusing, etc. Does anyone have experience with this, if so what types of supplements or naturopathic things did you use.  He already takes omega 3. Thanks

We use l-carnosine and it has completely changed my daughter. It helped with receptive language, auditory processing, focusing on tasks, and just about completely stopped her stimming. We use 1000mg once a day.

  • DS1 was prescribed 600mg of EPA for hyperactivity by his behavioral pedi. We have definitely noticed a change in that behavior (no longer need to run laps in the morning to burn off energy). You can't get that high dose of EPA in most gummies so we mix the oil into a smoothie or yogurt every morning. At DS2's next appt, I plan to ask if he could benefit from it.

  • ETA: DS1 was borderline ADHD, not SPD. We wanted to try this before meds. DS2 has pdd-nos.

  • Yes Kelley--we started at 250mg, then went to 500mg for a few weeks, then have been at 1000mg for about a month or so now. In regards to fish oil--now even the cheapie Walmart brand of fish oil has had mercury removed. I've never seen a supplement that didn't have that disclaimer ever.

  • The fish oil was recommended by my sons devel peds and KC you are right I have never seen any brand that hasn't removed mercury. I always see the huge disclaimer on bottle. Thanks for the replies.
