My older DS loved this and we just started to use it for our younger DS. Both boys love the toys on it and you get a lot of use from 2 months to one year since it starts with the play mat.
Sophie! Every baby I know has loved the hell out of Sophie.
Definitely Sophie. Who knows why but they love her!
For a few months down the line, one of the best purchases for us was the Fisher Price Kick and Play piano. He loved it when he was in the laying down stage and when he could sit up, the piano swivels so he could sit up and play. It was probably my longest lasting activity/toy thing.
stacking cups/ring stacker were fun for dd to play with, but she did not start playing with it the way it is intended until just recently.
I would also put books on the list - anything Sandra Boynton or Eric Carle is a good bet for little ones.
That said, toys are relatively cheap and you can generally find the above (minus the piano) for big discounts at places like Ross and TJMaxx. I would put other necessary low price items on your registry first and then add toys later if you find you need more low price options.
