C-sections

Intro and thanks in advance

Hello!  My name is Michele and I was previously more active on the infertility boards and August BMB (early on).  Due date 8/25 with my first.  I've had a very "textbook" pregnancy so far so haven't really been active on TB lately.  Like many of you, I didn't think I'd find myself on the c-section board but pregnancy brings all sorts of unexpected happenings!  37 week appt on Monday revealed that baby girl is frank breech and likely been that way for months.  I had an unsuccessful version today.  Will try acupuncture and chiro as well so we'll see.  Her rump is engaging in my pelvis, my amnio fluid levels are low-normal, and I have an anterior placenta - all things going against her turning.  Starting to come to terms with the surgery, though slowly.  Questions are starting to flood my mind and I thought this would be a good place to start being more informed.  Thank you in advance for support/information.
First things, first - how do you select a c-section date?  MD says anytime between 39- 40 weeks is fine.  I'm still working and will do so up until the surgery.

Re: Intro and thanks in advance

  • My first baby was frank breech and my doctor wouldn't even attempt to turn him. I did not get to pick a date, the office staff at my ob office arranged it with the hospital but I went into labor on my own before that date anyway. When I got to the hospital they did a quick ultrasound to confirm he hadn't turned then I had a c section. I was sad and scared but it wasn't so bad. I have had another one since and will be having 1 more in November. Good luck!

  • My doctor just scheduled me for 39 weeks.. But because his EDD was a Saturday, my doc did it the following Monday..
  • My Dr gave me a date right at 39 weeks and I said how about the next day (since it was a Friday). She agreed and it was scheduled 5 months in advance and I didn't go into labor.

Good luck! I've had 2 and my scheduled one was way better than my first that was not.

  • I scheduled my c/s for breech baby as late ad they would let me (wanted baby to cook as long as possible) at almost 40 weeks. baby had other ideas. My water broke at about 39 weeks. They did the c/s then. It worked out well.

  • My appointment was scheduled by the dr office for when my dr will be on call at the hospital around my due date. LO is measuring small though and my bp has been high so depending on home my ultrasounds go every week it can be changed at any time.

  • Thank you, ladies!  I'm thinking a Monday would be good to prep and get plenty of rest the weekend before.  Will schedule for 40 weeks, 1 day but if baby has other plans, then so be it.  I guess I was concerned that if my water breaks or contractions come quick and I dilate quickly that it would turn into an emergency c-section and become a lot more stressful.
