Your thoughts on Twin Names

Hi!  We found out a week ago we are having twin boys! (not identical)   We had picked out 2 girls names and 2 boys names, so have been running them through our heads for a while, but I wanted your opinions.  There's meaning for their middle names:

Elijah Joseph   (My middle name is Jo, so we'd have that similarity as our older son shares my hubby's middle name)

Gabriel John (My mom's maiden name was Johnson.  She passed 5 years ago and my hubby pointed out that John is a shortened version of Johnson, so he'd have a part of Grandma with him {she loved my hubby from day 1, but sadly passed 5 months before we married.  For him to remember her this way is touching})

So, what are your thoughts?

I like them a lot! They sound great together.

  • We are thinking of Eli and Gabe for short, but really it's whatever they'll want when they're older.  I mean, if Elijah doesn't like Eli, I'm not going to be upset if he doesn't use it.  Same with Gabe.  It'll be their choice.  :)

  • Very nice. I'd use Gabriel Johnson though.

I'm pretty sure if they have separate placentas they are fraternal. So the sonographer was probably able to tell.

  • Good names. They go together but aren't at all matchy. What is your son's name?

  • Great names. I love that they both has a special family connection as well
  • Great pair for brothers. I like the sentiments behind the choices.

  • Love both of those names (DH is Gabriel/Gabe) and love them together!! And absolutely super love the mn special meanings!!
  • Uhm this is SO weird! If our girls were boys they were going to be Gabriel and Elias, Gabe and Eli for short!

Ps. Don't be so quick to say they're not identical. I was certain my girls were fraternal cause they had two sacs and two placentas..we had them tested at 4 months old and turns out that they're identical!

  • Both great! If I were you, though, I would use Johnson - but Gabriel John is super cute.

  • @ g8trkim Our older son's name is Alexander James, he goes by Alex.  James is my DH's middle name.  Mine is Jo.  (We all have J middle initials, this is the reason behind making sure both of these babies had J middle initials too)

  • We didn't want to use "Johnson" as a middle name, there are some in my family that are simply nuts and crazy and have that as their last name.  I know that sounds wrong, but seriously, no joking aside, if I could "divorce" some of those family members, I would in a heartbeat!  We did want to honor my mom however.  Had we had 2 girls, one would have had her first name and the other would have had her middle name, Rebecca and Jean. I didn't know any way to incorporate Rebecca into a boy's name, and I didn't like Jean as a boy's middle name.  So, John it was.  :)

Those nutso family members would make an issue about using Johnson for a middle name, claiming it's in honor of them, not my mom since it was my mom's maiden name, not her married name.  While I can let a lot of what they do slide off my back, I couldn't let that and would lash out.  Wrong or not, it's what would happen.  This way I can know it's in honor of my mom without causing any stupid family drama with those idiots.

  • Nice! Clearly I'm a fan of Gabriel. I think the names work well together without being matchy.
