I forgot I am 39 weeks pregnant...

Yes Starbucks lady thank you for reminding me that I am very pregnant.

Just got back from getting myself a delicious caramel frapp and the lady asked me if I was sure I wanted caffeine. She could make it for me without the caffeine. When I told her yes I was sure she asked me if it was okay and looked at my huge stomach.

DH immediately looked away knowing I was in no mood for being questioned. I did not say anything but I'm pretty sure after 9 months I know what I can and cannot drink.

I took it to go and it was delicious.

Re: I forgot I am 39 weeks pregnant...

  • I avoided caffeine/coffee my entire first trimester, but after that it was fair game in my book. I now drink a cup of coffee every morning (caffeinated, of course) and have no shame. Screw anyone who thinks I'm being a "bad mom"!

  • My husband and I own a restaurant.  Earlier in the week we ran fish tacos as a special with mahi mahi for the fish.  I placed an order for myself for dinner and one of the cooks questioned me on if I should be eating fish.  I wanted to scream at him to just give me the damn tacos and let me worry about that.  Instead I just gave him evil eye.  I think he got the message.

It's no one's business what we put in our bodies.  Our bodies, our babies, our choices!  It's not like we're doing lines of cocaine!

  • Haha this just happeened to me at dunkin doughnuts. I ordered my coffee and when the girl went to hand it to me she said"oh did you want decaf?" Um no... then asked me if I knew I should not have caffine,I just looked at my 4 kids and said I think I'll be ok.
  • It also shocked me that she was questioning a very pregnant woman. Can't you see I uncomfortably waddled into your store and am very tired, why would you try to poke this bear???

  • I feel your pain @Natalie2167
I went to a tea shop and kept trying to order green tea and the manager kept insisting on only showing me the herbal teas. I told her point blank to give me the green and she said, "Is your dr ok with that?" I gave her the biggest death glare and she just let it drop.

Why do people insist on becoming a caffeine nazi with pregnant women? It's completely ridiculous that strangers feel they can comment on what a pregnant women eats and drinks.

People become an everything nazi. Apparently it's everyone's business what we put in our bodies.
I had a client pretty much tell me my coffee was poisoning my baby but was then confused why I couldn't take an Advil for my toothache. If you aren't pregnant, or never been pregnant don't tell a pregnant woman what she can and can't put in her body. Especially this late in the game, I'm likely to slap a bitch.

  • I was grateful that when I was at a company party, the waitress was handing out grilled cheese sandwiches (tapas place), and she told me the cheese was pasteurized and asked that's ok right? I said yes, thanks, otherwise I would have totally forgot. It would have been fine anyway but it was nice that she mentioned it.

My DH suddenly remembered that I wasn't supposed to have lunch meat the other day. I've been eating it as much as a normally do (which isn't often), and reminded him that I could microwave it and it was safe, and he still insisted that I not have any. Whatever. Go get me take out then. What I'm wondering is how he knew I wasn't supposed to eat it to begin with. I never told him about that.

  • I've been there too.  I was at a little mom and pop coffee shop and ordered a frozen coffee drink.  The other girl behind the counter piped up, "you know we can make it in decaf too".  Um, if I wanted decaf I would have asked!  Thanks anyway though!
  • You ladies are all nicer than I would ever be to someone suggesting I do or don't have caffeine. Sorry people feel so entitled to tell you what is right for YOUR baby!

Yup, everyone's an expert, except when they're not...
  • Oh how irritating! I avoided caffeine altogether through the 1st, 2nd, and half of the 3rd trimester! But once I could no longer make it through my work day and then come home and keep the house in order I caved and started having coffee after lunch and a glass of tea with dinner. It was my saving grace!

So I say drink your frapp and enjoy!!!!

On another note, my own doctor really got on my nerves the other day with the caffeine issue. I didn't put two and two together until about a week ago but my blood pressure started going up right around the same time I started drinking caffeine again. Once I was on bed rest I no longer needed any and after a few days without it my blood pressure was suddenly normal again. I brought this theory up with my doctor who agreed I might be extra sensitive and it could have been the culprit. But then she scolded me on drinking caffeine at all! I mean really?! If you didn't want me drinking it then shouldn't that have been something you mentioned early on rather than at my 40 week appointment! I stayed within recommended doses so I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal. Apparently I am too sensitive to it to have any more, at least while pregnant but don't act like I've done something wrong when you never once mentioned that you don't think it's a good idea for any pregnant woman. Although I would have been skeptical of her opinion I would have followed doctors orders!

  • This happened to me twice the week before I delivered. The first time I was too shocked to respond. The second time I lectured the guy behind the register on exactly how much caffeine was in the specific drink I had ordered. And how much I was allowing myself. And topped it off with "not that it's any of your business". Do not mess with an educated pregnant woman! I will lose it on you. I delivered the next day. Maybe he got me that worked up?
  • I have a pg friend who does this to me. Frustrating yes. However, not as annoying as when my sister offers me hard alcohol drinks EVERY time I've seen her during this pg. The first time she asked I looked down at my stomach and asked her if she forgot I was pregnant. Her response was, "oh, well I have friends who drank while pregnant". Well that's awesome for them and a very small glass of wine or something at home in private isn't a big deal to me. But DO NOT offer me one of your rediculously strong "I'm a drunk" hard alcohol drinks and just think it's okay. And THIS is why I have/will never ask her to babysit my children or be a legal guardian.

  • I haven't had any trouble with baristas, but a few weeks ago when I had a nightmare of a head cold, I went to the grocery store to pick up the two specific medications that had been OK'd by the nurse at my doctor's office. Then I went to the self-checkout so I wouldn't have to deal with a cashier... and the lady supervising the self-checkout looked over and asked, "Hold on, now... are you sure you're allowed to have those?" It seemed like she was trying to be helpful, so I bit my tongue to keep from asking her why someone with her obvious medical training and expertise would take a job supervising automated checkout stands.

@Laurakat81 My doctor actually recommended it for me when my blood pressure was too low. So I have no guilt

  • I drink one cup of coffee a day, and the baristas give me crap about half of the time.  It's ridiculous.

I just wanna bring a flask, pour it in, and tell them that I definitely want caffeine because it makes the tequila pop.

    Idiots.

  • I like it when people ask me if its safe for me to be coloring my hair. mind your own business! I'm a cosmetologist I think I know what's safe or not.
  • Why do people think it is their place to decide what a pregnant woman should be eating and then tell them? I mean, if you were getting drunk that would be a different story. This happened to me so many times!! Ugh!!

  • *shakes head* I cannot believe the nerve of some people.  It's COFFEE. I remember a long time ago when I used to work in a restaurant, a pregnant woman ordered a diet coke from me and was so nervous about it. Poor thing. I brought her refills, not an issue.

That being said, one of my co-workers was working Mother's Day (oh, the irony), and had a very pregnant woman order two larger margaritas with tequila floaters...who was about 7 months pregnant.
  • On a side note, coffee keeps my bowels moving. I have a cup of coffee every day, and therefore have a bowel movement every day. I'd get so bound up if I didn't have my AM coffee!
