We just found out we're having a boy AND a girl! We're so excited to get one of each. However, the question of car seats arise? My BF and I have separate cars. Should we get 4 bases or 2? What are your thoughts?
If you each plan to be driving the kids around, I would get 4 bases so that you don't have to remove and reinstall them each time one of you takes them in your vehicle.

depends on the car seat and the cars... and who's driving and how often each person drives.
For us, my Mom and I will have the bases. Because if my husband needs to drive the twins somewhere when I have the "family car" (Focus) he can securely strap them in to the Suburban or call my Mom and take her Cadi (which he would call her anyways if one has to go to the hospital... so that he only has to worry about the sick one and my Mom can babysit the other.) Besides the "emergency" scenario- He would have access to the Focus.
That covers the main people who will drive the twins besides my sister... and we're still trying to figure out if she'll have bases or not...

We only had two but if someone had the twins they got the bases car. If you both plan on doing like daycare drop off/pickup, four makes more sense.
Same here. The babies always get the car with the bases. It's never been a problem, but that just works with our lifestyle.

We have 4, and it works really well for us. What kind of carseat are you getting? My Chicco Keyfit 30s came with bases so we only needed to get two extra bases. Also are you having a shower? If you are, I'd say go ahead and register for extra bases....if someone gets them for you, great, if not, then you can decide for sure what you want to do.
My husband has a Mini Cooper; I don't know if it's even possible to put carseats in those. We're just getting two and if he needs to drive them somewhere, we'll switch cars. We plan to hire a nanny when I go back to work, so we won't have day care issues of one person dropping the babies off and another picking them up. I would let that be the deciding factor. Switching cars is easy, but if you both need to be involved in their transport, then get 4 bases.
We have 4. We alternate daycare pickup and drop off daily, so it makes sense. Also, this way either one of us could pick the boys up if they got sick at daycare, instead of burdening whoever has the car with the bases.
We had 6... Two for my H, two for me, and two for my mom. My mom and sister were watching them until they were 7 months old and they live a half hour away. My H and I alternated pick ups and drop offs and my mom wanted to be able to take them out. It was SO convenient to just be able to drop them into the bases. Yes, you can use them without bases, but when it's raining or snowing or 100 degrees out who wants to be going through the hassle of trying to strap two car seats in using the seat belt? To this day I would say the girls are in my car 75% of the time but we still have car seats in both cars because it's convenient for them to be able to go in either car. Now that they're in convertible car seats we have the nice seats in my car and we bought cheaper seats (~$60 each) for my H's car. It really just depends on your personal situation. If you think you'll be doing the vast majority of driving with the kids then don't get any extras. You can always pick them up later. If you'll be splitting the driving they're well worth the $$$ for the convenience factor.

We have four bases total. Our Chicco Keyfit 30s came with bases, so we just registered for two more. My Highlander will be the main car, but since my H drives a company car which is also approved for personal use, it will save us a bunch on gas and tolls to take his Accord when we can. Hence, it made sense for us to get bases for each car.
we got 4. we actually sent two bases over to our MIL (she had free luggage) back to chicago so when we flew there we didn't have to take them with us. those went back to my parents on a drive to michigan and flown back to us when my dad flew on southwest.

Our plan right now is two bases (for my car) since we don't think the infant carseats will fit in the backseat of the Accord with DDs seat in the middle. If they do, we'll use extra bases (we have two extras from DDs carseat). Otherwise DH will just strap the infant seats in with the seatbelt when he picks them up from daycare.

We're getting the britax carseats, and yes we are going to have a baby shower. Thanks for the info, we registered for 4 bases today
Thanks for all the info ladies. We decided to go with 4. Both the BF and I will be driving the babies around and, well, I'm lazy. He already knows HE'LL be the one moving the car seats and bases overall. I take his car often (I like it better than mine), so I feel as though he's seeing the extra work he'll have to do lol.
Lol, we have 4 bases and only 1 car right now . I'd say definitely 4. They aren't too pricey and the ease of each car having bases will make your lives simpler.

Thank you we're so excited to join team purple (it's what we were both not-so-secretly hoping for!)
My BF is definitely leaning towards 4 bases... I guess it's better to have then not have overall!
