Stay at Home Moms

WDYT?

H was wanting to go over to his parents house for the evening, however FIL just had his stomach stapled and can only drink liquids. The past couple times we went we had to get our own dinner from somewhere since FIL isn't eating solids so he doesn't make dinner and MIL doesn't really eat in the evenings. DS is only a month old and I'm nervous on leaving him, but I feel so burnt out and I think H and I need a meal alone.

Would you feel comfortable going 30 mins away for dinner to a nicer restaurant or would you keep it close to where it's only 10 mins away and not as nice?

I know it depends on my comfort level but I was just seeing what you would do with your LOs so maybe I won't have mommy guilt.

  • I don't understand your question? Are you leaving the baby with your FIL and MIL or a sitter? I wouldn't leave the baby with your inlaws considering your FIL's surgery.

If you're leaving the baby with a trusted sitter go the the restaurant you want and have a good night. There is no reason to have mommy guilt for a couple of hours away.

  • I would go to the closer restaurant but even now I am reluctant to go farther than an hour away from DD2 and she'll be 3 in a couple of weeks.  The food will taste good, regardless of where it is, because you are kidless.  And 10 minutes to get back to your baby will feel like an eternity if they call and you hear him crying in the background.

Sorry if it sounded confusing. Yes, ILs would be babysitting and FIL has mostly recovered, he's just on a strict diet. But thank you for the reassurance. :)

  • If its your first time leaving I would stay close. I think it's ok to go further and you shouldn't feel guilty but after a few trial runs.

  • Yeah, I'm a little confused too.  If your ILs are offering to watch LO I would stay nearby since it's the first time you're leaving him.  JIC they need you to return quickly.

If for some reason you visiting them entails having to leave your LO to get something to eat and it's not that this was a planned situation I would wait for another time.
  • Since your FIL is still recovering I would maybe go closer to their home.  You could always call them after dinner to see how things are going and if everything is fine then go have a drink somewhere.

Do what you feel comfortable with. Even if you go to a restaurant 10 minutes away you can always hang out longer after dinner you know? Order dessert or just find something else to do for another hour if you want. Either way if you trust your inlaws are capable of watching your child, you leave LO will a full tummy or other means of food, I'm sure it will be fine. Enjoy your date night. :)

  • Thanks everyone. We had a great time and DS did fine with them. It was a good recharge. :)
