Another Potty Training Post

My daughter is only 25 months. I think she is too young to really start potty training and did not want to push it BUT she will not keep her diaper on. She has attempted the potty before just for fun and she is always in the bathroom with me when I go. We just spoke about underwear and having to go on the potty when you wear underwear. She was all about it so she is wearing underwear right now.
Do you think I should continue to try the potty right now? Any advice?

Re: Another Potty Training Post

  • Go read the 3 day method.  We potty trained at 25 months and our son did great!

  • I wouldn't make it a big deal. I got our floor potty chair for my daughter a 1.5. She learned what it was for, sat on it, diapered and diaperless, put her toys on it, wore it as a hat, used it as a bucket, etc, for months. Then finally, a year later at 2.5, she got serious about it and within a month she was using it, with no accidents whatsoever. I just had to wait until she was ready.
Just keep explaining to her that if she wears her "big girl undies" (as we called them), she has to pee in the toilet otherwise she'll make a big mess.
And then you get to clean up the messes that she'll probably make lol.
I also used a reward system of Reece's Pieces in a gumball machine. I put them on the counter as a visual reminder (which helped her a lot). If she peed in the toilet, she'd get a shiny penny to buy herself a treat. If she pooped, she'd get a special big coin- a nickle! lol
Then I told her that once the candy was all gone out of the globe, no more treats,
It worked out pretty well, actually. I just didn't stress about it and just dealt with any accidents that happened.
Oh, but I did make her sleep in a diaper for a few months after she was day trained- just in case. Then when she started waking up dry for several weeks, I just stopped the diapers.
    Good luck!
