Anyone shopping for next year yet?

I'm thinking of taking advantage of the summer sales, and stocking up for DD for next summer. Anyone else doing this, and what size(s) are you buying? DD is long (in 95th percentile for length) so I don't think the 12 month clothes will cut it. :S

I have a few things but its such a gamble on the sizes. I only get it if I really love it. Mostly 12 & 18 mo.
I also live in CA and our summer weather is long.

  • I'm not. DS has never worn the size of his age. I'm not even going to try to guess whether he'll be wearing big or small next summer! I feel like I would waste more money (having out of season clothes) than I would ultimately save.
    This exactly!

  • It's a great idea in theory, but like PP mentioned, it is really hard to know what size they will be in next year, and you might waste more than you would save. If you do want to go shopping anyways, look for things that can be used in all seasons or items that can be used for layering in the winter if you happen to guess wrong...i.e. onesies and sleepers. • I am since I am here in Cali visiting, I do not like WV styles in Walmart or BRU. I am buying 12/18 month and maybe even 2t clothes here.

  • Nope. To much of a gamble. Even some of the stuff I bought when she was a newborn she didn't get to wear. I will buy as she needs or maybe a month or two early. It sucks when I see good deals, but if she ends up my wearing it then the deals aren't really worth it anyway.

  • I have so many clothes from Ava (many with the tags still on) that I could theoretically not have to buy clothes for Mila ever.

  • Hmm good advice ladies! And Canada is rather unpredictable in terms of weather. I just hate paying full price for anything, lol.

So do I. Make friends with your favourite store's clearance sections, and shop often. My favourite store is Old Navy (Canada) and I regularly find brand new items for less than $5 there. The other day I even scored a onesie for $.47, brand spanking new! My favourite deal is their clearance sales, they usually do a 30% off all clearance items, followed by a 50% off all clearance a week later once or twice a year. If you sign up for their e-letter, they will let you know when it's coming and email you a coupon for your and LO's birthday if you allow that option. :)

  • I do in the toddler/kid sizes, but not at this age. My older girls stay consistently on the same height and weight percentiles so it's easy to predict their future sizes. DD3 is 10th for weight and 90-95th for height. I have no idea what will actually fit next summer. If I had to guess, I'd do 12-18 months/18 month for tops/dresses/one pieces and 9-12 month/12 month for shorts and skirts. But at this point I'd rather just wait. Waiting means I probably will buy less and spend less money anyway.

  • I love buying Halloween costumes for the next year after Halloween. You can get costumes for like $5!

  • I wish I could, but DS is already teetering on the verge of not fitting into some 6 month clothes. So I just can't make any kind of investment not knowing what size he'll wear next summer.

Same deal here. Emerson has gotten plenty of new stuff but is also well-stocked on the hand-me-down front.

  • Only if the deal is too good to pass up.  I'm waiting another week or so when things get more discounted.  I know I'm going to change my mind on what I like to see her in, so I'm trying not to go to crazy.

  • I've bought some stuff in 12-18 mos sizes. Mostly polo shirts and t shirts. My LO is alreading in 6 mos sizes so who knows what size he will be in next summer. But, I live in FL, so we don't have much of a winter. I don't really have many long sleeve shirts for LO. But, I don't know what size he will be and when/if it will even get too chilly here in south FL. We had a decent winter last year. I'll prob just wait until it starts getting chilly and buy so,e then. It gets chilly here in late dec/jan. it's warm again by march.

  • how about looking in local mother/child consignment shops?  We have one right near us that's really nice.  They sell almost-new clothing for like 1-2$ apiece.  I have no qualms about used clothing, since M will only be wearing said items for a couple of months anyway.  So far we've not bought any clothes at all...all hand-me-downs from older cousins

  • I could stock up because I live in South Florida, and she can basically wear summer clothes all year round. But if we didn't, there's no way I would buy in advance. The way she's growing, who knows what size she'll be then.

  • I am. I've found some fantastic deals! (PSA for those looking - The Children's place has a ton of stuff for $1.99 on the girls side & $2.99 on the boys side. Plus, if you sign up for their reward points program, you get an email with another 25% off). I'm buying 12-18, 18, & 18-24.

  • With my mindset, I say if he is somehow in sizes I pick for summer next year during winter time.. then so be it, he will be in summer clothes inside the house lol.
