Another crossfit momma question

Recovery time - does it take longer for you now? I find myself out of breath and sweaty for much longer after my workouts.  I'm trying my best to maintain a steady not too intense pace. Sometimes I get a little too caught up but not too often. Today we did a version of fight gone bad. I paced fine I think - pushing 3 of the actions and taking it easier during the other 2 plus the rest minute. But I was exhausted and breathless for at least an hour afterward. And pretty tired all morning. I really don't think I'm overdoing but maybe my body is saying I am? I find it strange that only 15 minutes of exercise could have such an effect on me

Re: Another crossfit momma question

  • I have nothing to really add except its awesome to have other CF moms on these boards! Keep up the good work.

  • Hey ladies! I'm a crossfitter as well as a CF trainer and just found out I'm preggers. I get winded FAST but try to keep my heart rate around 140......at least until I see my doctor. Is there a Cossfit board on here?

There is no xfit board. There shouldn't be. It's health and exercise, so xfit questions should be on the health and exercise board. While I think crossfit is a nice program, I am to the point of annoyance with it in my area. All the xfitters show up at every running race I do, start at the front and I have to weave my way around them and their compression-socked legs within the first .5 miles. Crossfit is not the only fitness training, and I'm sick of all the douche-y people who think they are the fittest thing on the planet getting in my way. This is after I've raced three races in the last six weeks and experienced the xfitters (they are obvious) at the front of the corral. Again, I think xfit, in and of itself, is a good program, but it's just the fad right now. Also...the 140 bpm thing is a myth. Do what feels comfortable. Make sure you're not over exerting and nothing hurts. You'll be fine.

  • Um....ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion

Yes. In my area, xfitters act like it's the end all be all of fitness. It's not.

That's kinda out of left field ... Does anyone on this board act like that?!? And it doesn't need it's own board, but crossfit is different than most exercise plans and therefore we tend to have different questions/issues. Just like yogis would. I'm sorry some crossfitters were in your way at your race, but I'm pretty sure they weren't the only people you had to weave around

And yes, 140 bpm is way outdated and nearly impossible for a fit women to stay under. RPE is the preferred scale. My issue is that I stick to a moderate rpe but still take a while to recover

Xfit is huge in this area ( as is every new fitness fad), so a lot of people around here are getting annoyed with it. It's not that it isn't a good exercise program... it is, but around here it's the sense of entitlement you get from most xfitters. Guess I got annoyed that someone thinks there should be a separate xfit board on the bump. It's not like anyone else is asking if there's a separate running or triathlon board.

  • In my defense, I "asked" if there was a crossfit board. I'm new to this site and trying to learn how to use it. Thank you for making me feel so damn welcome. I'm newly pregnant and nervous as shit....thank you very much. Ok, so no on the crossfit board. Check. Moving on.
  • I had a lot of CF specific paranoias and fears while I've been pregnant so I understand what you're saying. Sorry you've had bad experiences with other Crossfitters Argonne, but douchey athletes come in all stripes. I've had my frustrations with overly competitive runners who look down on those (like me) who run an average 9 min mile.

In a time where obesity and health related problems stemming from it are so prevalent, should we really be tearing down others who are committed to being active, particularly during pregnancy???

Like I said, I think xfit is a great workout. There are certainly douches in every realm of athleticism. Trust me, I race Ironman triathlon and I see them at every race. Ironman triathletes tend to be the worst, IMHO. I just get annoyed at the whole "ooh! Ooh! Look at me!" BS (not just from xfitters, although, right now, they are the most prevalent). If you're so awesome let your fitness do the talking.

My recovery time was AWFUL while I was pregnant. The breathlessness started at the end of my first trimester. I see stories online all the time about women who successfully crossfit til the end of their pregnancies, that wasn't me. I cut back on wods to once a week and added in a prenatal yoga class. I stopped with the crossfit at the beginning of my third trimester. My recovery time had gotten so bad that a light wod was taking me over a week to recover from. Add that to an already increasingly difficult time doing things like walking, it just wasn't happening anymore. You're not alone.
