3rd b day party at home

i guess im having the party at home again this year. Was toying w/ having it out but im not having any luck with places. What were some things you did /do to entertain the kids? Last year (truck party) i had a truck craft and we had Mister Softee come and it was a HUGE hit plus it kept the kids outside for a bit :) i could always do that agin but im just looking for some different ideas. We are in a town house so i cant do too many games indoor or out really.

    Can you do it at a park?  

     Does it have to be a big ordeal? 

    For LO's 3rd party- It was literally 15 people and us.  Mostly relatives with a couple kids from daycare.   We had food, chatted and let the kids play toys, opened gifts, had cake and that was that.  Nothing big, but LO still loved every minute of it.

    We had a kiddie pool set up and beach balls. We have a tree house w/a slide so that was a hit. Otherwise kids just liked playing with DD's toys and eating cupcakes.

    This is how we approach it.  Kids will be entertained because they have each other.

    I haven't had a party with kids yet, but I remember my mom doing small games like pin the tail on the donkey, hot potato, musical rug, or drop the pin in the jar.  None of them take a lot of space or prep and you can change the names/objects being used to fit your theme.
