Teach me your tricks

So after my LO fighting her swaddle and busting out every 20 minutes, I finally just put her down unswaddled.  She did great (still woke up a few times but not any more than normal!).  So that is exciting BUT I nurse her to sleep and then put her down.... now when I slowly pick her up from nursing her arms move and wake her up.... how do you move your LO's without the swaddle?

Second and most important!!

I need help/tips on getting my LO to fall asleep without breastfeeding.  She will actively sickle on my breast throughout her 3 hour nap but will wake up pissed the minute I pop her off.  She does okay at night but won't nap unless she is attached to me.  Slight sucks thorughout her nap really mess her with acid reflux, her appetite, and I think it is starting to mess with my supply.

  • Hmmm, for moving her, it will take some trial and error to figure what works best for her. You could start by holding her arms still while you pick her up. (I can give you some more specific suggestions on how if you let me know how you nurse her at night...i.e. side-lying or sitting up.)

For falling asleep, I usually breastfeed until asleep, and then give him his soother. If she wakes up as soon as she lets go, you could try easing the soother in as you ease your breast out. I can't remember if your LO takes a soother or not, but this has helped when my little ones want to suck on something as they sleep and I have things to do. It may be worth a try. GL!

  • My I do not breastfeed DD but I rock her to sleep so then I have to move her from my arms to her crib. I started using one of those security blankets. A small one I found at carters,She holds on to my shirt when she's falling sleep so first I take her hand of my shirt and put it on the blanket and lay her down. Idk that works for us. She loves that thing,I think it makes her feel better. It can never hurt to try! Good luck
  • I "shhhh" loudly when standing up and then when laying her down in the crib. It seems to keep her from waking up enough to open her eyes, and buys me some time to get her sound machine turned on.
