waterproof non toxic sunscreen and bug repellant recommendation?

Hey ladies!  Has anyone else been playing in the sprinkler outside with their toddler?  My girl thinks it is so much fun.  She even points at the door and says ow saee (outside)!  I hate sunscreen though.  Anyone have a good recommendation for one that doesn't smell horrible or leave an oily residue and is non toxic?  Bonus points for kid friendly, safe, waterproof BUG REPELLANT!  Seriously, we have so many mosquitoes this time of year and she just gets covered in welts...

  • We use coppertone water babies pure and simple 50. It's rated as a 2 on the ewg.org skin deep website. Cvs baby 50 brand that specifically says "compare to coppertone pure and simple" is also a 2 with comparable ingredients. You could look on that website for one that is rated a 1 though. I found those ones needed to be ordered online and were more expensive.

As for bug repellent - it's not waterproof but is completely natural and does the trick, it came the mail within 2-3 days:

  • We use the Aveeno Natural Baby sunscreen.  It's SPF 50 or 55.. I can't remember which.  I like it because it isn't really greasy or oily.  No suggestions for the bug repellent though, sorry!

  • I've been using Cutter Natural Botanicals (or something like that). It's deet free and it actually smells really sweet and not like typical bug repellant. It's not exactly what I'd call a light scent but it isn't at all unpleasant.

  • My family would always use Avon's Skin So Soft as a bug repellent. I have no idea how non-toxic it is, but it has to be a little better than actual bug repellent.

Hilarious. My mom used that, too. Reminds me of being little and when my mom would spray the crap out of our cuts and scrapes with Bactene.
  • I just got the babyganics bug spray. Haven't tried it yet but it seems like good stuff!
