Ultrasound showed accessory lobe..?

So at my a/s there was concern that the placenta was too low and close to the cervix. Turns out at the ultrasound today it has moved away and that part looks good, but they saw where there is an accessory lobe. They didn't seem too concerned about it, but glad they found it to make a note so when I actually have him they can make sure to remove it all.

Has anyone had any experience with this? My mind is at ease about it because we're aware of it now, just wondering if this is common or not. Other than that, Jacob is weighing in at 3 lbs 12 oz and kept opening his mouth and waving his arms throughout the whole ultrasound.

Ive been told I have a lobe too, and will have to have a shot of pitocin immediately after delivery to try to ensure it all comes out when I deliver the placenta.

I've never heard of that. Extra lobe of what exactly? Placenta?

yep, an extra lobe on the side.

I would say you are lucky they know about it so you don't risk having retained placenta. I have heard too many stories about that happening lately, scary.
