Smokers All Around Me!

I'm obviously not ready to announce to my workplace, but it is starting to really bother me that I have to be exposed to second-hand smoke all day long. Two people in particular hover around my desk reeking of smoke. I swear a cloud of smoke follows them everywhere. Our staff "conference room" is a hallway filled with smoke and people smoking -- and it's the only place I have to go to discuss things with my boss. It makes me so angry, but I also feel really helpless about it. However I feel like what's going on with me is pretty obvious already without me saying, "Dude, can you stay away from me while you're smoking?"

Wow! I can't believe your workplace is not smoke free? Where do you live? Everything in PA is smoke free anymore. I just get annoyed when I go to like the public park and there's people smoking around me.

This! That's just crazy to me! I'm sorry you have to deal with it - a smoke cloud at work would really, really bug me even if I weren't pregnant.

I was thinking the exact same thing!! Didn't realize there is workplaces that still allow smoking.

@mrss8112 @acaawkward I work in downtown Manhattan in NYC! Haha I guess we are "smoke free" but I work in a high rise and lots of people smoke all over the building so they don't have to take the elevator all the way to the bottom floor and smoke outside. I would ask my supervisor to bail me out (he knows) but uhh... he smokes.

I hear you. I spend a lot of time in clients' houses and most of them smoke. I'm glad at least my office is smoke free though!

There is no way I would stand for that. i would tell my company about my pregnancy early and make a big stink about it rather than just put up with it. Basically, I would rather be sad and embarrassed about a miscarriage than to regret the decision later when I had to take my child to get asthma medicine.

No judgement on whatever you do, but that environment is not okay at all!

@littlelady77 OT I mean, I really disagree with the stigma around miscarriage anyway. There's no reason any of us should be embarrassed if it happens, but for some reason we feel responsible and isolate what's happening in our bodies. So I am in total agreement with you that a healthy atmosphere overrules privacy. I guess I don't want my employer to freak out and think I'm leaving and start to act like I am not there, but that's a whole other issue and I don't even know if that will happen. I am glad you reacted so strongly because it gives me courage to say something which I know now I definitely have to. I might suggest to these two people that NOW is a great time to quit as a hint for the next week or so before my next u/s.

I can't imagine working in that environment, pregnant or not. I hate the smell of smoke! I would tell their lazy butts to get marching outside for that cigarette break Lol
