FB for a 3 year old?

I just noticed that my friend has a Facebook page for her 3 year old. Ummmm, Why does a 3 year old need a FB account?.. She can't even read!!

Some people just make me scratch my head and wonder.

Hmm, to give her the benefit of the doubt.. maybe it is a way for her family to keep up with her photos and growing and such. But still.. it's a bit much.

  • That's ridiculous!

  • I scratch my head at people who make their pets a Facebook account and go as far as having daily status updates on said pets Facebook. It's weird.

  • So unnecessary. You can limit posts on your page to a certain audience if you only want to keep certain people updated on your kid. It's like people that have one for their pets.

Don't get me started on people that allow their 8 and 9 year olds to have them.

  • I know several ppl who have created FB accounts for their pets... as you can see from my avatar, I love my dog, but she does not need her own FB... but, to each their own!

I wish I was joking. I said "you made a FB for your unborn baby?" and the dad goes "you jealous?" I said "yes. Unbelievably so." and left it at that lol.

I'm sorry, I just threw up in my mouth a little. Ugh. I know times are a-changin, but your child doesn't need his or her online persona to be up and running before birth.

  • if my kid is old enough to save and buy their own computer, with virus protection, they are old enough for a Facebook. Until then, My computer is my super pinky, DH's computer is his, and my brother wont even let us touch his computers so DS is SOL.

This is how I feel. My niece has been begging for a Facebook since she was seven, because all her friends at school have one. Thankfully, BIL has put his foot down. She gets up to enough trouble when he lets her look at Youtube unsupervised.

  • How much happier would these people's pets and children be if they spent that FB time actually playing with the animals/children?

  • I don't want my child dependent on technology for entertainment either. I want to limit their use early on.

  • I'm not a fan of young kids and technology either. I'll never say never about tv, because I know a lot of parents who tried valiantly and lost that battle. I definitely would like to limit it. The internet is a whole different story though.

BIL and SIL were really young when they had my niece and she's been parked in front of age inappropriate tv her whole life. As soon as she could type they let her start using the internet unsupervised and it makes me so nervous. We walked in on her watching a porn someone made with barbie dolls after she searched for "Barbie" on Youtube. I think she was around 8.

  • Does she play FarmVille? I have crazy older family members making profiles just for more friends on FarmVille... I don't get it.
  • We have friends who have a FB for their 1 YO and they check him in everywhere. They even check into "boy's name theme room" when they are home and go into his room. Ugh. Sick.

    Awesome.
This. Can you imagine when those kids turn old enough to want their own account and they'll realize they've had one their whole lives? Creepy.

  • Nope, wouldn't do it!  If she wants to keep family updated on the child, post it from her account??

  • I don't get the posting 'as' the kid or pet. That's weird. And I have friends with pet accounts for games.

My SIL did set up a fan page for my nephew. That way only people she knows and that want constant baby updates get to see all that stuff. She didn't want to spam all of her friends with dozens of baby pics if they aren't interested. And it's easier for her than setting up different groups to post to on her personal page. I'll probably do the same thing.
