Trouble TTC

Crushed- Second SA

We recieved the results today. No live sperm. 2 dead sperm. Ph and viscosity are still high. We're crushed. After four months and successfully beating the diabetes into submission we'd hoped for some improvement, but instead things got visciously worse. From 175000/ml to 0. :(
I keep trying to go over the reasons that could have caused this. Maybe just maybe the uti and high grade fever he had about two and half weeks ago coupled with the antibiotics wiped the slate clean so to speak and killed off everything. I don't know if that's a possibility or not.
I do know we will not be going back to URO who insisted the diabetes was the cause of his abnormal results. If we have to drive the two hours to a fertility clinic or other specialist to get some real answers than so be it.
DH has called his primary care doc to see if she would be willing to prescribe him clomid since so many ladies dh's seem to have had success. That Uro said he didn't believe in clomid for men. I am so angry and frustrated with him.
I want to cry and scream and hit things. We are good people darn'it. This shouldn't be happening, not to us and not you guys. IF SUCKS!

TTC since March of 2012
Me: 27 Dh: 35 Testing Begins 3/5/13
Six SA's show DH has low numbers across the board = severe MFI
Genetic testing for me = MTHFR+, also carrier for blood clotting disorder Otherwise all else normal
Dh's karotype= Normal!!
 Mini-IVF/ICSI - July -August 2014 - 1R,M,&F Transferred 1 Grade 1 Morula-5dt - BFFN

Re: Crushed- Second SA

  • So frustrating!  I'm sorry...I wish I had advice or words of wisdom - I just don't have much knowledge on MFI.  But hopefully getting some better 2nd/3rd opinions and new docs helps.

  • Oh honey I'm so, so sorry.  I hope that you are able to get a doctor who listens and helps.  It just makes things so much worse when you don't feel like you are in good hands.  ((hugs))

  • We are in the same boat- ZERO sperm.  If it makes you feel better, find comfort that they can do more for men than women when it comes to infertility.  Don't give up hope.  If you are in the NYC area, our urologist is awesome (his boss created ICSI)- Weill Cornell, Dr. Paduch.  I'm so sorry you are going through such a rough time, but know you aren't alone.  HUGS :-)

    IVF #1 Oct 2013- cancelled
IVF #2 Mar 2014- success.... baby girl born 11/28/14

  • I'm so sorry to hear this. I would definitely change doctors. It does not sound like your current doctor is willing/able to give you the help and support that you need.

So sorry that you got such bad news today.  I can't even imagine how devastating news like that must be.

It seems logical that a high fever (in the 101+ range?) would cause some decrease in sperm count and since your DH's was lower to begin with, it seems plausible that a fever could have wiped him out.  Also, a UTI probably didn't help.  A book I'm reading (Making Babies by Dr. Sami David), Dr. David says that a number of his male patients with low sperm count have an underlying UTI that has been undiagnosed, so maybe treating this will ultimately be a good thing!

I would agree with PP that you need to find a new doctor.  "I don't believe in Clomid for men" simply means "I don't know enough about it or care to learn anything" (let me guess, the Uro is old and near retirement).  The fact that your DH went from some sperm to no sperm definitely indicates that something is/was up.
    Baby girl N born 10/29/14!

  • So sorry, I hope you are able to find a doctor that can offer you more options.

  • My hubby is on clomid because his testosterone is low and with blood work they said his counts are up because of it, I think you should see a new urologist. One that specializes in MFI would be better. I still need to get him to do another SA to know what is going on there though. My H has diabetes as well. GL to you!
  • I'm so sorry Cindal.  I was rooting for it to be a great one!  I hope your DH isn't taking it too hard and knows he has done a great job getting his diabetes under control.  ((Hugs))
