My DD is 5 months old today and she is absolutely driving me crazy. She has no problem falling asleep on me, near me, with me, but as soon as I go to move her to her crib her eyes pop wide open. I have tried moving her to crib when she's completely passed out, when she is semi-sleepy (awake but drowsy), wide awake. I've tried giving her the pacifier, rubbing her belly, rubbing her head, singing a lullaby and in despiration i tried letting her CIO once and she ended up crying so hard she was hyperventalating. Tried putting her in the car and driving around, tried putting her in the ergo and walking around. Nothing works, the kid freaks out. I want her to get used to sleeping in her crib and not on ME all the time, as I can not get anything done and It would be nice to get a longer shower in there sometimes. The problem is that she is exhausted and I can tell by looking at her and cranky because she keep missing her naps when I try to put her in the crib. Also, when she doesn't nap well during the day nighttime is a nightmare as she is too overtired to even get to sleep at a reasonable hour. All she wants is to sleep on me and I can't do it anymore. I need some down time too and I never can get it, plus if she sleeps on me and I move it wakes her up. Anyone else going through a tough nap stage?
Re: Driving me bananas
I'm sure you have, but in case not ... Have you tried the "5-S's" from Happiest Baby on the Block?
My baby needs white noise to help her nap ("Shh-ing"), and needs to be swaddled to sleep any time of the day/night. When it's really bad, we have to throw the swing in there along with her binky, too.
I wouldn't say she is "colicky" (although some might), she just needs help to get to sleep.
