Fills My Boobs With Sadness

We are moving back to the States from Germany in about a month, and I realized that I will have to dump pretty much my whole milk supply since we will be in hotels for at least 3 weeks and have basically a 24 hour period of travel. I EP and don't have a ton stored up (about 100 oz split between the fridge rotation and the freezer), since LO eats all but about 8-10 oz of what I pump in a day. Can anyone think of a way to save any of it?

If frozen milk can be used for 24 hours after thawing, can it keep in an insulated cooler bag or does it need to go in the fridge to thaw? Does anyone think I can seal up a cooler bag full of frozen BM and then just not open it and hope and pray it stays ok? I'm taking my battery operated pump with me during the travel day, but I'm so afraid I won't be able to pump a full day's worth of milk for LO while on a plane and in an airport.

(Just FYI I'm going to X-post to BFing board.)

  • Dry ice- with DD I had to travel for work and was away from her for about four days.  I pumped and froze my BM then shipped via FedEx.  But I would think that you can pack it and check it as a bag.  You should check with your airline.

  • I was thinking the same thing.....dry ice. If you can't do dry ice on the plane, maybe you could mail it to a relative you'll be visiting here in the states (I know you mentioned it before) and then pick it up when you visit them. GL!
