A couple of weeks ago I posted believing I had puppp. The obgyn thought I had ring worm (gross but better then puppp). After a week of medications not working the dermatologist just diagnosed me with pregnancy induced psoriasis. He also said that it may only show up during pregnancy but now that its here it might just stick around... Forever. Sad!

Re: Pregnancy skin condition

  • I feel your pain on this one. Only, I've been battling it for about a year and a half now (multiple diagnoses, nothing worked, itches and gets worse when I workout/sweat/take a warm bath.) Sunlight helps! I was OK'd by my dermatologist to use a 2% hydrocortisone cream and lay out in the sun for 10-15 minutes at a time and he gave me a product called vanicream (spelling?) that actually attracts the appropriate rays to those spots. I was diagnosed with para psoriasis - it's only on my torso/chest so I'm lucky. BUT, for me, pregnancy has made it way better! After the baby is born I'll do light therapy, which is concentrated uvb rays that will essentially put it in "remission" for up to a year.

  • Well it's now, on my legs, arms, stomach, and back. My doctor sounded pretty confident that he will make it go away. While areas are multiplying it seems rather mild. He gave me a foam to put on it twice a day. He is doing a biopsy just to confirm his diagnosis. It's just strange, I read about it making existing skin conditions such as psoriasis worse. I just didn't know pregnancy could give you psoriasis. There is no family history of this either.
  • I have preg induced psoriasis.  With DD it was awful.  It is only on my scalp but still itchy, gross & flaky.  Every night before I go to be I put Vick's vapo rub on it.  It takes the itch away and helps with the flaking.  I also like Burt's Bees Almond Milk Hand Lotion.  It comes in a jar and smells pretty good.  It takes the scales off but does not help with the itching so much.  After your LO is born if you are not BF, you can get some steroid cream and it will clear up in literally a day.  Some people say cold pressed coconut oil works well on their psoriasis but it didn't work for me.  I feel for you because I know exactly how you feel.  It is horribly awful to deal with.

This last winter, I got a prescription for this because my lip got really itchy and red underneath it. It is AMAZING.. I have a history of cold sores (i get them when I'm really stressed out) and it works GREAT on those as well.. After reading this, I'm wondering if I had pregnnacy induced psoriasis(this pregnancy ended in a m/c).. Now the last few days i'm getting that same itchy redness under my lower lip..
