But and or tailbone sore?

Within the last week I have had a sore butt. Similar to the feeling of a sore lower back, just in the butt (muscle part, not talking about butt-hole) to clarify. Yesterday my tailbone seemed to ache, but nothing at all today. I'm just assuming this is body preparing for the load of a baby, but has anyone else experienced one or both of these things?

  • Sorry, still puzzled by the new layout... Butt not but. Where's the edit button? Sheesh.

  • Yes I have felt like I bruised my butt since week 8! I thought I seriously fell or did something that I couldn't remember. But I seriously feel as if my tailbone is sore! I then thought that it was my chair at work but noticed it would happen if I was in the car or on the couch. It has gotten better in the last couple of weeks but I guess it's just a strange symptom...?
  • Sounds like it may be pubic symphysis disorder. A good chiropractor can help tremendously!
  • Mine mostly bothers me when I'm at work so I'm going to see about getting a different desk chair.  I try to get up and move around pretty often but sometimes that's easier said than done.

I'm too scared to go to a chiropractor so I'm looking for stretches and things I can do at home.  The idea of someone cracking my bones just freaks me out!  I won't even crack my knuckles!

  • I have been having pain in my tailbone too.  I think it may be radiating from my SI joint.  I have always had issues with my SI joint even when not pregnant.  I haven't done anything to try to alleviate it, because it comes and goes.

  • I wish I could blame mine on a chair, but I barely get a chance to sit down lately as I have a very active cleaning job. The one thing that feels good is to sit down. I just keep blaming it on my butt being too heavy :P

  • I had about 4 weeks (weeks 23-26) of severe tailbone pain during my first pregnancy.  I'd previously injured my tailbone, and that coupled with SI joint issues, were the likely reasons for the pain.  I sat on a wedge cushion at work, with my tailbone hanging off the end to avoid putting extra pressure on it.  I also went to physio a couple of times, and the stretches the physiotherapy showed me for were a huge help.

  • I had tailbone pain starting late second tri with my first pregnancy, and now I'm having it again with this pregnancy.  My doctor said that unfortunately it was a normal side effect of everything shifting around.  For me, it lasted until delivery last time around.  Hoping it goes away for you.

  • I've been having the same pain the past few days! By the time I leave work at 2 (I sit most of the day), I'm really feeling it. I put a heating pad on it for a bit and lay on my side.

  • Yep it's gonna hurt then get better then hurt again then you get lightning crotch . It's just things shifting and stretching to get ready for a bigger baby and delivery . Totally normal and sadly annoying
  • My dr suggested alternating ice and heat. Plus recommended prenatal yoga at least 2x a week, no heavy lifting (this included groceries) and if have a desk job getting up at least 1x per hr. She is giving me a preganancy safe muscle relaxant (not sure I am sold on taking it though) and said if gets worse will start me on physical therapy.

Oh I forgot all about lightning crotch!!! Haven't had it this pregnancy yet, but ugh, I remember it now.

  • Sounds like sciatic nerve pain to me. I've had it since about week 4. Some days it's more tolerable than others. A heating pad helps, but I've had nothing make it completely go away.

  • yes, but my pain was severe and I couldn't walk much of the time.   Went to see a physiotherapist, and it turns out the horomones cause your ligaments to get loose, well mine got so loose that my SI-Joint actually dislocated.   Now I wear a brace to bind my pelvis, which helps with the pain.  NOT COOL.
