Eric Carle book FAIL

I got the book Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle at my shower. So I finally broke it out to read to DD. It's about father fishes caring for the eggs- and right at the end the dad fish says he's baby sitting! I'm irrationally angry at that.

hmm, I posted a picture with the wording but it's not there anymore.  I guess it's not allowed?

It was just surprising to me because it's a book about fathers and also- Eric Carle! who is so well-known for his children's books, I can't believe no one caught that before it was published.  Although plenty of Amazon reviews mention it.

ETA: now the pic is back?

  • Oh no he didn't!! That drives me bananas. I bought one of my favorite books for Ev, Put Me In the Zoo. I get to the end *spoiler* and he ends up on the circus, I get sad every time even though the character is happy about. Damn you evil circus!

I mean, at least he can put his spots wherever he wants....even if it's at the circus and not his first choice of places to live.    I also get angry at that book because the little girl's bow is way too big.

  • I hate when dad's say they are babysitting.  My best friends husband says it all the time, it drives me crazy.  My husband said it once when Wesley was about 3 weeks old. I overheard him telling his friend he couldn't do something because he had to babysit his son. I lost it on him. He has never said it again. That's sad to see it in a childrens book.

  • Hahaha that is the worst book ever.
  • I'm with you, @cerratoc.  Ridiculous!  I hate it when people laud men for being "great dads" when they do the shit that moms have been doing foreeeeeeever.  Fuck that noise.  Just because the bar is apparently incredibly low for dads doesn't mean I need to pat my husband on the back every time he sits down and feeds Henry or rocks him to sleep or changes his diaper.  I love that he's a good dad, but nobody pats me on the back for doing these things, they just expect it because I have lady bits.

  • My MIL got us this book. Come to think of it she also gave us the book, "Dad's Pregnant Too" when I was pg last year. I think she's all about giving her son credit for stuff I'm doing. Haha!
