Rough Day

DH took DD to his parent's house so I could get our living room painted. She didn't nap at all while there and fell asleep on the way home for about 40 min around 5:30. When DH got home, she was completely out. He got her out of her car seat and walked into the house and she woke up. She immediately started hysterically crying and didn't stop for an hour! It was awful. We just couldn't calm her down. She couldn't catch her breath and I was so nervous that she was going to hyperventilate with the way she was taking really short breaths. I rocked with her for 30 min and she finally settled.

We have no idea what caused this. My guess is that DH accidentally woke her up mid-dream and suddenly being home was confusing and scary.

Anyone else experienced this? What a nightmare. I was in tears. Only good thing was that while we were rocking she actually looked at me and said "Mama" which she's never done before. Obv, I cried more!

Re: Rough Day

  • Oh my goodness, that is rough! :(  The only thing I have experienced that was at all similar was when DS had night terrors.  It's SO tough to not be able to console and calm them!

Glad she eventually settled down, and I think you're probably right about why she freaked out.  I know that DS rarely wakes up crying on his own (unless he's sick or something), it's usually if something startles him awake.  Hope it doesn't happen again!

  • Oh no. We haven't experienced that before but I agree, it was probably mid dream and confusing. I don't know how baths are for y'all, but if dd is particularly agitated, I plop her in the bath to play and it usually changes her demeanor. I think you did the best you could.

We took DS to an autograph signing on Saturday for an NFL player we like and I think he was so overwhelmed by the hundreds of people there and all the noise so he had the biggest meltdown he's ever had. I had to take him down into the parking garage and rock him on the ground next to our car until he calmed down. He was hyperventilating and everything. I was trying not to cry because I didn't want to upset him more but it was awful.

It was the first time since he was a little baby that I couldn't calm him down. A-W-F-U-L.

This is exactly what happened to us! I've never seen her cry so hard she couldn't catch her breath. Ugh.

    :(

I didn't mean to take over your thread!

I didn't think so! I'm glad to hear we are not alone in this crazy freak out!
