I don't have statistics, but if the baby has their legs crossed, or other hindering things it would happen. Drink some juice in the morning to get a spike of sugar so the baby is moving around, and therefore more likely to move in to a favorable genital spotting position.

I had my anatomy scan 2 days ago and baby was facing toward my back. Even after getting up and walking around she wouldn't love. Ended up having an internal ultrasound cause we wanted to know the sex. She finally found it but bc baby was in a weird position I go back in 2 weeks to get the missing measurements.

Interesting! At least they were able to find out internally for you!
It's rare that they won't be able to tell the sex of the baby during the a/s. And if they can't, it usually means that can't get other measurements either because the baby just isn't cooperating (as explained above). That means that you'd have to go back for another u/s and you'd likely be able to find out then.
In the off chance that they are unable to determine the sex AND they got all the required measurements, I'd invest in an elective u/s

Good to know! I am hoping the elective part won't need to happen as it's super pricey around here. Maybe we'll turn to Team Green in that case, hah!
All three of my babies were difficult. DD1 wouldn't uncross her legs, but the tech eventually got a good position to see.
DD2 was in a bad position and the tech couldn't get a couple of the measurements so we had to wait until I was 28 weeks for another one to be able to tell! Talk about going crazy!
DD3 also had her legs crossed, but the tech told us she was 90% sure she was a girl. We waited to take tags off of outfits until she was born and decorated the nursery pretty neutral, just in case.
If we can't find out at my A/S on Monday, I will definitely pay for another one. The suspense is already driving me crazy!
I never had problems with my kids. DS1 we didn't want to find out, DS2...well, just just say I'm sure I'll get a call when he's older about streaking at a game, and I won't be surprised, DD the tech had to try a couple times, but finally got it.
I had my a/s at 23 weeks last time and my OB said my son was right under my belly button which created a dark spot and that meant he couldn't determine the sex. I hated the OB and kind of didn't believe him. He was very judgey because I was going with adoption and not keeping the baby myself.
ANYWAY, I've heard the sugar tricks are pretty good. There's a Dunkin next to my OB's office so I plan to treat myself to a donut and a decaf iced coffee before my appointment!

Are you serious??? I'm so sorry @bethughknee, what an asshole.
@mrsjenni Thank you. It was pretty bad. I dreaded seeing him so much that I ended up switching OB's and really loved the one who was there for the delivery. The a-hole one didn't think I'd be able to go through with the adoption so I sort of wondered if he didn't tell me the sex because he thought I'd get attached. It wouldn't have mattered. It was still hard but in the absolute best way possible. I think of adoption as really, really cute organ donation.
One of my good friends wanted to find out so badly the sex of her baby. Her husband totally wanted to be team green and on A/S day she broke down and cried and he agreed to find out. LO kept her legs crossed the entire time and they couldn't find out lol
She's the only person IRL I know of this happening to. With my last pregnancy I had u/s ever four weeks and every time I asked the tech to double check to make sure DD was still girl haha.
My daughter had her legs closed the entire a/s until the very very end. I had to come back for a 2nd one because she was stubborn and didn't show her face and kept moving too much for her heart measurements too.
